Sadly not technically correct, as we can go down later in the season.....

We can do this.

Three games in but we’re in big, big trouble already.
Re: The only way is up
You said it was a four team competition. I presume you only think there will be four clubs battling relegation this season?

Dyche out
Re: The only way is up
And that's why the Bournemouth example shows it won't work like that. There will be others who will quite easily drop down the table after a good start so it'll be six or seven teams, not just four, like it is every season.

IF, and it's a big IF but I think if we win tomorrow we should be ok with a bit to spare as results elsewhere are now starting to fall into line as you would expect.
But we need to win though...

Re: The only way is up
It’s the same every season. Burnley writing us off before the season has started, knocking the players, calling the board and owners. As the season progresses, they continue to moan. Even when we finish in the top 10, they moan “next season we will go down for sure!”

Re: The only way is up
Not really just predicted it as we have finally come to that standstill.
Recruitment these last few years has been non existent - no plan no future but to keep offering 30 year olds extended contracts.

It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for yet another abject failure of a transfer window.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 5:18 pmIt’s the same every season. Re: The only way is up
A win tomorrow and the whole feeling around the club will change, also as well as lifting us out of the bottom 3, it would leave us just a point shy of Brighton with a game in hand, so it's far too early too despair, but tomorrow is a big game, even this early in the season.

All I want to see is a clear plan - hopefully once the takeover is done we might get one

Re: The only way is up
10 wins and a few draws, by no means impossible.
Too many are willing to right this squad off. we have good (if a bit old) players.

Or we need to win close on 1 in 3 of our remaining games.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 8:15 pm10 wins and a few draws, by no means impossible.

Whichever way you look at it it is not beyond doing but if you go through our fixtures
game by game it starts to look extremely difficult.
But agree a good win tomorrow will lift the spirits.
A loss will start a few off especially with our next two games against Spurs and Chelsea.
Re: The only way is up
Take one game at a time, but I feel that tomorrow's match against the Baggies is an important one to get some form of momentum going and stop the rot of defeats. Especially after the two week international break. Doesn't look good at the moment being on 0 points. 35 games to go to get at least 40 points.
Re: The only way is up
I think some need to calm down a bit. This was the table two seasons ago after five games, with us at the bottom. Also, those saying how well Villa are doing, just look at Watford and Bournemouth.

Happier, there are 2 more divisions to go before he'll be ecstatic.

I was looking at the eldest’s Panini cards from last year (no, really) and wondering how the hell Watford went down with the squad they had.
They were far too good on paper to drop.
They were far too good on paper to drop.
Re: The only way is up
And it happens every season that a squad that's seemingly too good to drop will have a fight on their hands to stop up. That's why there will be a few clubs fighting to avoid relegation, not just four as some seem to think.
Re: The only way is up
There was some real rubbish in the league that year, Cardiff in particular. We've stood still and the league has moved on.

Re: The only way is up
Having now seen every team at least twice there's no hiding the fact that we are in our rightful place currently as we are by far in a way the worst, weakest team in the league.
We have done naff all to remedy the situation too unfortunately.
The West Brom game is now a must win when you look at our run of fixtures up to mid December when we play Wolves at home. By then though we could be well adrift

Struggling to see where the goals are going to come from this year. Tems have figured out stop McNeil and thats most of our threat taken care of. last 3 games have been really painful to watch

Are you saying that even with everyone fit, such as Mee, Cork, JBG, Jay-Rod etc. we aren't good enough?
The same squad that got 54 points last season (minus Hendrick)?
Yes, its obvious we have problems with injures and it severely weakened us in recent games, but there is no way on earth that with every one available we are one of the weakest teams.

And Lennon. And Hart. And all another year older in what was already an aging squad.

Aging squad yes. But constant Hart and Lennon gone, I find strange. How many Pl games did they start last term?Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:20 amAnd Lennon. And Hart. And all another year older in what was already an aging squad.
