Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
Newcastle fans have got together and organised a boycott of the PPV that sky and the PL are imposing on fans. They instead have decided to donate £15 (the price SKY want us to be paying) to local food banks in a defiant gesture. They have so far raised £16,000 for their local foodbank.
Now Turfcast have started the same for our fans.
If you disagree with the extortion of fans from the mega-corps and want to do a bit for local people who are struggling then feel free to donate too.
Personally I think this is a brilliant initiative all around. Both symbolically and practically.

That link has been on here since early April - and that tweet is a lot of nonsense because it is not Sky who are taking the money.

Or put it towards going to watch your local non league side instead. Plenty of worthier causes.

A Premier League spokesperson said: "The Premier League has worked closely with Sky Sports and BT Sport to provide this arrangement and is grateful for their support.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 6:32 pmThat link has been on here since early April - and that tweet is a lot of nonsense because it is not Sky who are taking the money.
Yeah i'm sure they did that out of the goodness of their hearts and have no financial incentive what so ever.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I get far more enjoyment watching my lad’s under 9s team on a weekend than I do watching professional football.
Children’s grassroots football is ace. One hour of pure commitment and entertainment.

Ahhh some good old fashioned virtue signalling going on here.
Don't pay the £15. Go and watch it on a stream.. If you think Burnley FC, or any other club/broadcaster are actually going to sit around in meetings and pay any attention to this, you are in dreamland.
Wish more people would support these kind of causes without the need of something to protest against. Im sure the local foodbanks will gratefully receive all your donations going in each game we play and when we get back to the stadiums - lets triple the bins we have there for you to all fill?
or is this just a one off?

Can't you do both? Throw a odd tin in here & there & still watch the footie on TV, I don't see why you have to do 1 or the other.

I prefer the good old days before Sky when you could see every game in the top league for free.

Because you won't get the same likes and retweets on social media by doing this.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 7:41 pmCan't you do both? Throw a odd tin in here & there & still watch the footie on TV, I don't see why you have to do 1 or the other.
One of the social media accounts asked about whether people were going to pay to watch and for anyone that said they were, they just got abuse.
Much safer to post saying you were going to not watch legally and then do a bit of virtue signalling.

Surely any promotion of the food banks is welcome CT...? No...?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 6:32 pmThat link has been on here since early April - and that tweet is a lot of nonsense because it is not Sky who are taking the money.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
I won't be paying for the game, but it's not down to any form of protest, I understand that the clubs can't offer their product for free, but I'll still be at work due to the early kick-off time, so there's no value in it for me.
However we as fans have to also realise that the players aren't paid out of fresh air, and well the ongoing pandemic is around then there's little or no chance of fans attending games in person, so well this isn't ideal it's the best they can do in the circumstances, and no one is holding a gun to your head to pay for this match, in all probability in normal times it wouldn't have been screened, so at least the option is available for those that wish to fork out, or indeed have the means to fork out, I'm well aware that for many times are hard right now, and football won't be high on their agenda.
I'm glad the foodbank link was bumped again, I'll donate later on, it won't be a huge donation but I'm in a position where I can help out, so I'm happy to do so, I know how tough living hand to mouth can be having been there myself.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
I donated last night and will continue to do so for every game.
I also support my local foodbank with tins each week.
So not just a gesture

Nothing is being imposed on fans. You have a choice. Choices cost and you decide if they offer you value for money.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
Does the PPV mean Premier League clubs get more money?
Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
The funniest thing about all this is fans won’t pay but expect clubs to spend millions on players and wages. Even though they have no idea what their income will be over the coming years.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
This is why I asked the question above your post. If this means Prem clubs get more money from TV deals, then it makes more sense for fans to pay for their home team's games.
Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
I'll be watching, and still donating to the feedback as usual.
I will also be donating a further £1 worth of tins per point we get this season from each game as and when it happens.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
I've signed up to PPV for tonight's game. First time I've used box office. Fingers crossed it all works fine.
I don't know if I'd have got a ticket to West Brom. It would have been great to go. Obviously it's cheaper for me to pay for ppv than (hope to) buy a ticket for the game and pay for travel to west brom - and, that's even though I pay over 65s prices.
The only way is Up THE CLARETS.

Re: Donating to local foodbank rather than pay the PPV
it's funny, in that I had not seen this until now, I went on the just giving a very short while ago and actually noticed someone I have not seen/heard from for years had given exactly the PPV amount to the penny and thought that's a strange amount, kind of makes sense now though.
But as mentioned earlier, anything that helps drive to the foodbank is a good thing in my opinion, I was lucky in that the game was on here, so was able to watch on TV rather than stream, which is so much better for me, although I get to watch most PL matches free here.
