Dwight McNeil

Post by Papabendi » Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:01 pm

Worth addressing, I have certainly been vocal regarding his loss of form of late. Thought he was excellent tonight.

Best outfield player on the pitch - much more like the Dwight we know.

Excellent tonight, certainly looks like he's got his mojo back, might have just needed a rest.

Now if he can just get thst final ball and shot sorted I'm sure he will be assisting and scoring very soon.

yep agree, not only delivered good balls into the box but was full of energy. Maybe he has been unsettled with the transfer window but back at it tonight for sure

I think I'd rather see him down the middle. Let him drop back and pick the ball up in central midfield and run at the opposition.

agree he looked good tonight, also agreewit others that his final ball/ shot needs to be better. if he could put in a decent crosss when having made rooom for himself or shoot on target he would truly be a top premier league player

He is the difference in us doing well. Always a threat when he presses-hopefully from tonight he will go on to get even better in next few games. Hopefully our coaches recognise this

Was great tonight, find his crossing is much better when he has to hit it first time with no thinking, when he has time to set himself seems to overhit it a lot.

We've got a fantastic player on our hands. Would like to see him going forward a little bit more but he is a star in the making.

He's worth a lot more than £50m, especially now he's signed an extension, he still has aspects of his game to improve on, but he's got the raw ability to become a PL stalwart for many years, let's enjoy him well we can, because sooner or later he'll be off to bigger things.

Sometimes Dwight doesn't look as if he's interested but I think it's just how he is, used to be like that in U18s & U23s - but have to say that he looked like the Dwight we know tonight. Much, much better performance from him.

Can't understand our fans who don't rate him. He is head and shoulders above anyone else in that team. Put him in a side with some better footballers and he'll improve even more.

Never understand why we need to put players down to say how good another player is.

Roll on a week and he'll be quiet and Chris Wood will be the stand out man of the match. Roll on another week, and Nick Pope will be an auto starter for England. Roll on another week and Tarkowski will have saved us.

We have a number of quality players.

I’ve been saying for 3 months it was the cast on his wrist that screwed him up. It’s gone and he’s back to what he was. Thank goodness.

I said a couple of weeks ago that now teams have identified him as our main threat and started to stifle him, both McNeil and Dyche need to find ways of him influencing the game. I thought there was a conscious effort by Dwight to drift inside today and play a less rigid and more 'floaty' role which really suits him. I think in some ways we sacrificed the right hand side of the pitch to allow this but hopefully the balance will come in time. Unfortunately our forwards were a little rusty tonight and didn't capitalise on some of his superb work.

I do think McNeil saved us from going down when he came onto the scene, but you make a valid point of just how many quality players we have. And I said similar in a recent post - McNeil can have a bad day but Chris Wood knocks a couple of goals in. Chris Wood has a poor game and Pope has a belter of a game. And so on.

No, I think it's been unsettling for him, feeling a lot has been expected but his wages weren't matching those expectation. Maybe a new contract was promised at the end of last season - and then covid-19 intervened.

Or, maybe I'm just reading a little too much into a young guy's football performances, especially one I do not know, other than seeing him play for Burnley and, occasionally, England U21s.

Only around half the population get three figures for their IQ. Plenty have to live with double digits.

Signing a new contract will no doubt have increased his salary and that isn't motivational, nothing will be.

Welcome back Dwight, we've missed that type of performance!

Best player on the pitch by a mile last night

Pretty much all ex pro commentators praise him

Given their experience/knowledge of the game at this level I tend to agree with them rather than the Dingles on this messageboard
