Re: Your Top Comedians?
I saw Lee Mack a few years back and he was very funny. So quick with come backs to comments and heckles. I saw Milton Jones earlier in the year and he was good in a different way to Mack. I do find Gary Delaney funny every time I have seen him on TV and was disappointed to miss his live shows last year.

Re: Your Top Comedians?
Milton Jones always reminds me of Lionel Messi. Not a fan of Gary Delaney, but Lee Mack is brilliant on "Would I Lie To You", as I mentioned further up.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 9:39 pmI saw Lee Mack a few years back and he was very funny. Re: Your Top Comedians?
Dara O'Briain is brilliant, very quick and superb with the audience. I saw him up in Newcastle and barely stopped laughing throughout. Same with Kevin Bridges, although you spend the first 10-15 minutes frying to decipher his accent!
Billy Connolly also brilliant, saw him on his last tour, suffering badly with his Parkinsons, but recovered from Cancer, and brilliantly made light of both.
Don't mind Jasper Carrott, and another shout for Tim Vine and his one liners!!

I went to see Jasper Carott in Huddersfield last year. You can tell he's a professional.

Finally, someone who agrees with me. The amount of people who, over my lifetime, have not found this film funny is unbelievable. I laugh every time I watch it, must be over 20 times now.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 7:35 pmNot sure if you've seen it, but I think one of the funniest ever films is "See No Evil, Hear No Evil"

Dave Gorman - Goes against the mould of almost all those named so far. He typically goes on impromptu adventures then tells the true stories about his experiences.Anyone that likes a good story and a good laugh is advised to watch The Googlewhack Adventure. It's fantastic.
Jimeoin / Marcel Lucont / The Boy With Tape on His Face / Bill Bailey / Steve Hughes all amuse me greatly too.

Tommy Cooper is my all time favourite, closely followed by Richard Prior.
More modern comedians it has to be Jimmy Carr and Anthony Jeselnik, who’s deadpan delivery has me in bits.

Re: Your Top Comedians?
Saw him do just that at Blighty's near Bolton in the mid 70's. It was right at the start of his act, he wasn't even in view but everyone in a packed club was aware of 'someone' trying to find the gap in the stage curtains to make an appearance. So simple yet so effective and he already had the audience on side. A genius.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 2:56 amTommy Cooper. An absolute diamond. Have to mention another one for the 'oldies' who my wife and myself saw around the same time and that was Frank Carson. As an earlier poster has said we laughed so much it hurt. Classic timing, some predictability at times but a master of his craft. Brilliant entertainment.

Kevin Bridges has definitely exaggerated his accent over the years, you can see the difference between his older and most recent videos on Youtube, the stronger accent does work better though.

Is it safe for me to say I really don't like comedians who feel they need to use their race for laughs? I just think a professional comedian should have enough about them to come out with genuinely funny things and not have to go back to race.

Re: Your Top Comedians?
Lots of comedians use their real life experiences growing up as a cornerstone of their act. It stands to reason that black comedians will have had to deal with a lot of **** that came their way due to the colour of their skin while they were growing up and it's likely to form the basis for a lot of their material and helps to dilute the prejudices and insults that came their way.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 6:08 pmIs it safe for me to say I really don't like comedians who feel they need to use their race for laughs? But they use the same material. Is it not sensible, for them to come out with new material? I watch a lot of comedians and I just know what some of them are going to say when they walk on. Programmes like Mock the Week, the Comedy Store etc. It's the same thing.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 6:13 pmLots of comedians use their real life experiences growing up as a cornerstone of their act. They don't mix it up. This can be their entire show, and then it follows, "I've been {name} thank you very much!" - and I'm like, that was awful.
