That organ sound on Gimme Some Lovin’ was superb. Saw them a few times. From the era when music wasn’t produced by computers.

The story goes that the group were under some pressure to produce a hit single and had been given 24 hours to 'sort something out'. Steve Winwood picked up an idea from the tone of the threat and within half an hour, according to him, were sat in the pub knowing they had a major hit single ready to record.

One of the really good progressive bands of their time.

Expanding on this (and off topic but related) I was reading what I thought was an interesting article just recently asking why we all love classic pop,
The article said maybe because it’s just better. John Lennon could go to number one in the UK chart albums this week with ‘Gimme Some Truth’. The current number was Queen featuring in the harts were Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Tears for Fears and Suede.
The biggest selling albums this year were by Queen, Fleetwood Mac Bon Marley, ABBA and Oasis.
Not a single new album released by a contemporary artist in 2020 has gone Platinum (300,000 sales) and that includes streaming figures. Dua Lippa (of the canned sound of singing) managed 150,000.
The rise of the Golden Oldies is part of a larger trend during the Pandemic. Plays on Spotify included many of the nostalgic type including Mr Blue Sky 43 years after its release.

Question:- Why is that Britain has produced only two arguably Global Superstars in a while. Adele and Ed Sheeran.

Firstly:RIP Spencer. Thanks for the music.

Answer: the power of the music labels has disappeared and their control of music radio. More music is now being made in kids bedrooms but without the push that acts were given in the 60-80s.

Yes but is the music as good as it was. Personally I think not but I would. Listening to some of todays offerings is mind numbing. My son thinks the same
