Tony do you know if fans are allowed in to watch?

It’s just down the road from me the match today

No fans unfortunately, it has to be played behind closed doors. In a normal world, given that our first team are playing on Monday this week, I'd have gone up and then gone to the u18 game on the Saturday. I went to Bishop Auckland last year for the Premier League Cup game when Steve Stone made a spectacle of himself on the touchline.

That’s a shame, been wanting to watch a few of young talents for a while. I remember the game last year was a close affair until that penalty. Hopefully we have got better and can beat them this season.

any talents you have your eye on Tony?

Two triallists start for the 23s with another two on the bench

It’s so frustrating because I’m not getting the opportunity to see these new players. The lads who were impressing me last year are moving up to the first team squad now such as Benson, Thomas & Goodridge.

I can report watching from Sainsbury’s car park next door.

Burnley looked pretty good that half. Struggled to tell who the players were from that distance but number 11 looks to be a decent player and number 8 has definitely been our best player, he’s really good in possession of the ball.

Half time 0-0 and according to my report number 8 is Gomez Mancini and number 11 is Aveiro.

11 is a trialist but I believe is Brandon Aveiro from Crystal Palace. The number 8 I think is Anthony Gomez Mancini, the lad on loan from Angers.

I’d forgotten about the supermarket next door. And we went in the pub for Sunday lunch last year.

Been quite decent to be fair.
Got myself a sarnie and a coffee, luckily I am tall so I can just see over the fence from the car park.

Also on Livescore.com following Middlesbrough Under 23, although it does not give first names of either of them, however, Aveiro's initial is B!

Not really sure what’s happened this second half.

We looked really good first half and we have just collapsed second.

One thing I have noticed is our strikers look very young and are not physically at the same level as the boro defenders. They just look bigger and more physical, always going to be difficult up against that

That’s possibly why they just looked a little under developed. Maybe another year or so and they will gain a bit of muscle mass

Looking forward to see Gomez Mancini play. Who would you liken his style of play to from what you have briefly seen today, Newcastleclaret?

I wouldn’t really say he is similar to any of our starting eleven apart from maybe Brownhill. He had great energy but he is also very very tidy in possession. His first half was excellent, I would go as far as saying he looked a level above anyone else. But his second half was average at best, I think he rapidly tired out

Had a message from someone who was there and it concurs with your thoughts - great first half but not so good in the second half.

I opened another thread for the Sunderland game just a few minutes ago, that can be closed please CT and discuss the game here to stop clogging up the board with the same threads.

Sunderland U18s drew 3-3 against Manchester United in April 2019 - since then they haven't picked up a point.

They lost the final four games that season - lost all 16 last season and have lost four this season.

It's an astonishing run for their u18s - that's 25 successive defeats now since April 2019 when they drew 3-3 at Man U. They've scored 17 goals in those 25 games and conceded 97.

They used to have a very productive academy - the decline seems to have coincided with their fall from grace at first team level. I do know they have revamped things this season up there but just a few years ago we'd have been delighted to take three players they'd released, this year they've taken three from us.
