I think anyone with any interest in sport knew about Frank Bough given all the years he covered sport for the BBC. His career abruptly ended due to his involvement with drugs & prostitutes but for over 20 years he was in our tv screens.

He’s died in a nursing home aged 87.

He was THE face of BBC sport in my youth. Grandstand with Frank v World of Sport with Dickie Davies on a Saturday. Later he became one of the first faces on Breakfast TV before the revelations of his use of drugs and prostitutes ended his career. RIP Frank Bough

Sad, tbh I thought he'd died a while ago. Definitely part of people's life, of a certain age.

His first big role apparently was replacing Peter Dimmock on Sportsnight, the midweek show. Now you really do have to be of an age to remember Peter Dimmock.

Frank Bough was of his day but was an outstanding sports presenter.

these types of host were famous throughout the country back when we only had 2 channels. the viewing public had no choice . far, far better than the multi channeled muck we have to trawl through now.

I've heard of Frank Bough despite him being slightly before my time, he was a character by all accounts. RIP Frank.

Up there with the very best.

Appeared on the Morecambe and Wise Christmas show too.

Who can forget Frank and Nesta Bough on the Holiday programme. He killed his own career

I remember the debonair, moustacheod Peter Dimmock, he hosted the early BBC Sportsperson of the Year awards as well as Grandstand.

Yep regular on our TVs for years back in the day.

I remember how much I used to look forward to Sportsnight when it was on. I’m pretty sure it was not on that often so when you did get a midweek sportsnight it was genuinely exciting !

Compare that to the last couple of decades when you can get your fix of sport any time of the day every day of the year.

I'm of the age i remember him from my younger youth. Grandstand and the BBC had all the main sports whereas World of Sport had the odd stuff....Well in my eyes anyway. It was only worthwhile for the wrestling before switching back over to watch the football results come in on the vidiprinter. That was at a time when he result wasn't really known and waiting in anticipation for the Burnley result to come up. Invariably it was a defeat at that time though
He disappeared rather suddenly from our screens with his misdemeanours. If he hadn't maybe we would never have had the great Desmond Lynam take over.

Well, maybe not now quicknick, but at the time if you weren’t a high profile pop star or footballer, being involved in this type of behaviour was very unusual. Or at least being discovered was unusual.
Nowadays, it seems almost EVERYONE has a nose full of shite...

Anyway, RIP Frank Bough, another part of my youth gone.

The epitome of old school bbc sport , the anticipation of a great days sport on Grandstand anchored by the affable smooth and very professional Bough is the stuff of great memories . The image of him coked off his tIts in full BDSM gear surrounded by a bevy of prossies was always gonna be tricky one for his career though

Frank was one of 'the' faces of BBC. Apart from sports he was on Nationwide, BBC Breakfast and Holiday programmes. I think the end of his career was a bit a bit of car crash that kept the Sunday rags going for a few weeks. RIP.

Not such a 'big deal' when Bough portraited himself as having high moral standards. His hypocrisy was his downfall. He moralised on everything including kids comics.

His first broadcasting assignment was when he was asked to co-commentate on a forces match by Gerald Sinstadt, who is still alive at 90.

How times have changed! Nowadays it would be an exclusive Mea Culpa, 2 weeks in the celebrity wing of The Priory and then back to work.

As a mark of respect his family has asked that everyone should wear a bask.

Perhaps they took a film in together after the match ...

Excellent TV presenter. I think that he was like so many others of his era and ilk, guilty of thinking that he was so famous he could get away with anything.

If I remember correctly, the story broke on the day we played Wolves at Wembley in the Sherpa Van final.
