Well done lads

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Mon Oct 26, 2020 9:54 pm

That was far better than we’ve seen lately. It was always worrying that spurs just needed one chance and when it came they took it. But credit to the lads that was a really good performance against an excellent team.

Defensively we were excellent and Kevin Long in particular deserves credit. He’s come under a lot of scrutiny and in for criticism. From myself included. But from a defensive perspective tonight he put a great shift in. To keep Kane and goal aside son so quiet is no mean feat.

Brownhill is far better in central position. And didn’t let the early harsh yellow card go against him.

The handball against wood was very disappointing. It’s crazy that the rule means that’s handball. But the rules the rule.

Only criticism is I’d have brought Barnes off after 65.

But much more reason to be confident. And showed exactly why most pundits and neutrals expect us to be fine.

Some hard games to come. But if we can become ‘one club’ again we should have enough to scrap through.

Agreed. It's not games against the likes of Spurs that'll keep us up. But we've got to take this kind of display into games against the others down around us.

Lots of positives to take there. We’ve look a lot more assured at the back since Tarky’s return as you may expect. It just isn’t happening at the other end. We have proven goal scorers though so it will click, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thought Brownhill was superb tonight.

Meh.

We didn’t create many big chances. We mainly defended okay but switched off at a set piece and that continues to cost us.

A bit better, but 0 points again.

Very good performance. We've just got to take the positives tomorrow morning and not dwell too much on the result. Go again with the same application and we'll pick up more points than we drop.

Reckon as team performance goes, we'll not match tonight's and come away with 3 points more than once this season.

The last 2 games have brought encouragement, and the defence is looking more solid, we've only conceded 1 in 180 minutes now, but we need to take our chances when they come, we do appear to be getting our mojo back slowly, and once we can get a win on the board the pressure will lift from the lads and we've shown that we're capable of having purple patches in this league alongside the lean spells, but for a mistake and Son's quality we would probably have taken a point tonight, that and Tarks having his effort cleared off the line shows the small margins at this level.

Play like that in most of our remaining games and we'll collect enough points to be fine. We made Spurs graft for the points and that's a plus, most people on here thought Kane & Son would blow us away, and they certainly didn't do that, Jose will know Spurs got away with one tonight.

That Oliver lad that Spurs have signed had a good night for them. Shrewd bit of business by Jose there.

Excellent performance. Never got that one clear cut chance we deserved, apart from Tarks header. Lots of half chances.
SD seems to have forgotten how good we were post New Year with Wood-JRod up front. They complimented each other much better than Wood-Barnes do.
Really pleased for Kevin Long he was immense.

We could play until this time Wednesday and not score a goal.

It's an absolute travesty that Dyche werent able to strengthen the first team in the window.

It's like watching the same film over and over and over again.

And if we'd taken our chances we might well have won, our overall play was decent enough, we just lacked the killer instinct, we'll play far worse than that this season and pick up points.

Considering the opposition and the game before we have made great strides to be back to our best, I am actually confident we wont be going down even so I will say it early, as in now with 1 point from 5 games, we wont be going down.

Much better viewing tonight than the saints and Newcastle games but sadly still 0 points from the game, little signs we getting back to normal.
Jay Rod for me had to be given longer than 8/9 mins to affect the game.
Think with a full turf we wouldn’t of lost that one.

Extremely disappointing result but performance sounds much better
so there's at least something to look forward to if we can continue
improving.
Some concern re. McNeil as it sounds as if he's struggling
to maintain some decent form. Was hoping after his performance at West Brom
that he might have a good game tonight but it doesn't sound as if he has.
Barnes is also a worry but Dyche will be loathe to bring in either Jayrod or Vydra
unless he's forced to.
Think it might be a while before we get our first win and we might need to repeat
our second half of the season form from the last two seasons to stand a chance of getting up the table.

Absolutely ridiculous that we've lost that game tonight, lot's of us could have predicted the course of events, really good performance up to about 65 minutes, we started to tire and spurs found some belief, we needed fresh legs in order to push them back, but they didn't come, should have been jrod and vydra on by then, or at least one of them and maybe Brady for gudmundson cos he was one of the players starting to tire, it didn't happen and spurs started to pass the ball round it was there for all to see, but the most crucial thing was that Jose and his troops could see what was happening as well, next thing balls in the net, too late, chasing the game, and then on comes jrod, and with 2 minutes to go vydra, someone please tell me the sense in that, one person lost us that game tonight, and before the avalanche yes he's had a big say in where we are today, but it just baffles me why he can't see things that are so glaring as it was tonight, and it certainly wasn't the first time, as I'm sure lots of us will agree.

If some of our fans don’t think we played well tonight then they are in for some really disappointing times.
Have a listen to what Mourinho said about us tonight. Look at the way Spurs have played away from home this year and how many goals they have scored and torn teams apart on the counter.

We’ve had awful injuries this season in key positions and now we are getting players back and fitter the performances are improving.

A look at the league table and where the likes of City and United show how strange a season it’s been. Other than Ben Mee we almost have the team that equaled our best ever points tally in this league last season.

We had played really well, I was impressed with the performance, but spurs just started to have a bit of belief and it was plain to see that we were starting to tire, the right thing to do do was bring some pace on in jrod and vydra to push them back and stop them in their tracks, had we have done that we would have won the game imo.

There were positives of the lads battling and working hard, but in possession we were poor. We need better coaching for players to receive the ball and the next player move into the right place expecting it. It just seems not many of our players want the ball.

Tonight really emphasised to me the importance of a right footed winger. JBG did OK in fairness, but cutting infield on to his left foot is so predictable

Don’t think it’s coaching. It’s pace. And confidence. A younger lowton had several opportunities to get into a dangerous cut back position.

Just before they scored the guys on sky said we were looking like the team most likely to score and win the game.
The game was opening up a little in the last 25 minutes but we were the team on top and restricting them to fewer counter attacks and chances than pretty much any other team has done all season.
I don’t know what game people are watching some times.

Definitely an improvement & steps in the right direction, they'll play worse this season & pick up without a doubt.

Don’t think it’s coaching. It’s pace. And confidence. A younger lowton had several opportunities to get into a dangerous cut back position.
We need pace no doubt, but when the Centre Halfs have the ball with time on the half way line there should be 5 or 6 options for simple balls. But they turn their back and just run in to their position to force long percentage balls.

If you can't see the importance of a good performance at this stage of the season, against one of the best attacking teams in the league, then I don't think football is for you. You do realise if we keep playing that way then you (as we have seen in the last few seasons) end up winning more games and then you get more points then you move up the table.

I hope that last bit simplified it enough for you lot saying "yay, we got no points"?

Decent performance. As said above long did well generally but was at fault for the goal.

He lost son and was shocked when he looked round to see son had scored the goal.
JBG had a good game. Looked fit.

Another good performance but not the result. We are looking like our old selves and the results will soon turn in our favour.
Tarkowski was desperately unlucky with the header which was cleared off the line by kane. Long and Lowton both had good games and Brownhill was excellent playing CM.

The results will soon turn in our favour. I personally look forward to the season in confidence, knowing that we are good enough to retain our Premier league status for another season
