Today's Footy

Post by ElectroClaret » Sun Nov 01, 2020 12:36 pm

Villa 0 Saints 2

Ward-Prowse with a beauty of a free kick for the second.

0-3 and another belting fk from WP.

If Grealish doesn't play well Villa are completely useless and if he were to get injured they would be in deep trouble.

Also, the 7-2 win against Liverpool was probably a bad result in that a 2-0 or 2-1 victory would have kept them more level headed.

The 7-2 win was a brilliant result for them. Reality is teams like Villa are going to have bad results - nature of the PL.

I didn't think Villa were going to be involved in the relegation battle this season, but it looks like I could be wrong. It makes our 1-0 defeat to Southampton look like a good result.

Villa have lost 2 games on the bounce (their only 2 losses) and now they're suddenly going to be in a relegation battle?

If you'd have asked on here after the finish of last season the majority would have held the opinion that we are a better team than both Southampton and Villa and would expect tp finish above them

Watching the game today both these teams look streets ahead of us and will definitely finish comfortably above us. Is this down to the great job their two managers are doing or is it more because of problems within our own camp?

I think some of the bigger clubs will be starting to look at Hasenhutl. He's really turned it round there, playing a good style of football without spending a fortune.

Horrible seeing teams like villa scoring 3 and 4 goals a few times already yet we cant register shots on goal

Newcastle v Everton not a very good game so far but interesting to see the main difference between us and Newcastle - pace. They have at least 3 players who can turn defence into attack very quickly which means they can defend deep and then break with intent. We just don't seem to recruit players with pace.

Scream in agony and collapses to the floor like he has been shot. Ref gives a penalty and he is immediately on his feet grinning with his team mates. Wrong on every level.

Yeah I saw that. Slimy little turd.

We’re not so good at winning penalties. I think had Barnes made a meal of the challenge on him by Chelsea’s keeper yesterday he’d probably have been awarded a penalty by the VAR.

One thing that always strikes me when watching other Premier league games is our chronic lack of pace. Even Newcastle have 2 or 3 players who can run at players and get them up the pitch quickly.

What's annoying about the Newcastle v Everton game is that neither side looks particularly good. We seem to make teams appear better than they are. Teams realise that we don't seem to be able to hurt them offensively so they are prepared to take more risks knowing we can't punish them if they lose the ball.

Who needs pace when you can whack the ball upfield at 60 miles an hour.

There’s enough threads criticising the way we play. Why don’t we keep this as a discussion about today’s football rather than using every goal scored as an excuse to have another pop.

The worry thing is that so far I've watched a lot of the games and a nearly all look capable of a surprise result, or have an encouraging win under their belts.
A lot of average team who we've in the past have been in and around eg; Brighton, Villa, Newcastle etc. all look streets ahead of us.
It's really looking like 3 out of the current bottom 4.

Have we had any apart from Andre Gray I can't think of any other player who's had any pace. Yet until this season it hasn't been much of an issue.

My point was they've had an encouraging win 0-3 away at Newcastle, and watching them they've been competitive against other teams even if they went on to lose.
Newcastle just beat Everton who started on fire. Everyone seems capable of beating someone, with a small group of exceptions, us being one.

Just to put our season so far in perspective, we're only six points behind Man.Utd who are one of the biggest clubs in world football and who have a large squad of top internationals worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

Didn't see the game, but that's United's 3rd home defeat of the season out of 4 games, and the other was a 0-0 with Chelsea, surely Ole can't survive the bump much longer, Pogba at fault for the pen the sooner they get rid of him the better he's an expensive flop, and on this evidence you can see why Fergie let him go 1st time round.

I really am getting totally confused now with VAR and the referees interpretations of it. That was a clear foul by the Brighton player on the Spurs player before the equaliser, yet the ref who was a couple of yards away from it doesn't give it, then the VAR ref tells him to look at it. In slow motion it looks more like a foul than I first thought yet the ref says 'no foul' and gives the goal. I'm lost.

Not dissimilar to the game at the turf which Spurs edged, we had the better chances in that, and should have taken at least a point.

Good news that Brighton & Sheff Utd failed to register this weekend, it means our expected defeat to Chelsea isn't unduly damaging.

Friday is a huge game, if Brighton win it, they'll be 7 points ahead of us, if we win it we'll be just a point adrift of them, yes it's early in the season, but we don't want to be cut adrift and playing catch-up even at this stage.
