Danny Ings injury

Post by ClaretTony » Mon Nov 02, 2020 10:43 am

I saw it last night on TV and it doesn't look good. Ralph Hasenhüttl has suggested it could be a bad one.

I really hope not, he's had more than his fair share of bad injuries. Fingers crossed that the scan today doesn't confirm any bad news.

That's good news because it didn't look good at the time

I have to admit that when I saw it happen I thought that it was serious, mainly because of Danny's body language. I hope that he makes a quick recovery and that it was nothing really serious. Cracking goal he scored too.

He might even be available for Friday's game against Newcastle, so it can't be anywhere near as severe as initially feared, good news for Southampton, and of course England.

I think they feared cruciate and it didn’t look good when I saw it. Not often it’s good news when you see something like that.

Hope not, I haven't seen it, but considering he's had 4 cruciate related injuries I believe, it clearly would threaten he's career.

Already confirmed that it isn't anything serious but I think he's had only one cruciate ligament injury and that was while he was at Liverpool.

Not out anywhere near long enough with either injury - first once sustained in August 2011 and played in January 2012, second one sustained in August 2012 and was back by October. The two at Liverpool, one was cartilage and the bad one was the cruciate.

Not that I'm going to go on from here and argue about it, but I'm just saying what I've heard in the media over the years and going off that I'm pretty certain he's had 3 cruciate injuries, 1 bournemouth, 1 burnley, just not certain there was a second with us, and 1 at Liverpool, but if all that's correct fair play to him he's still playing, and wish him well.

I might be wrong but didn't he have one of the knee injuries in that period when we were hit really hard by them? As I recall Marney, Vokes and Barnes all got em within a couple of seasons of each other, didnt they?

A cruciate ligament injury will keep a player out for months and months at minimum, often over a year. His two injuries at Burnley were much shorter, both knee injuries. The first was done at the end of August and he was playing again in January but the second one kept him out only from August until October.

I was surprised with this news today given what had previously been said but at least it doesn't look as though it is a serious one.

Is it true that Danny picked up a bad injury with us in training following an 'over enthusiastic' challenge from Andre Bikey when Ediie Howe was manager and as a result Howe barely played Bikey again?

He picked up his first injury for us in training just having signed but, at the time, Howe said he'd done it in shooting practice. It was a cartilage injury. Reported on 20th August 2011 and he played his first Burnley game for the reserves v Preston, and scored, on 18th January 2012.

As for Bikey, he played a further 14 games for Burnley up to and including the FA Cup tie at Norwich that season. That was the day he and Howe had the row on the touchline and he never played for us again.

The second injury was on 7th August 2012 and was in the pre-season friendly against Rochdale. However, he was back in the first team by October.

Length of recovery of an acl is dependent upon whether its a complete tear, or of course it can be disrupted, but it is possible to position the 2 ends close together and in some cases it can heal fairly quickly, also if as I say if it's not a complete tear it can also heal fairly quickly with some surgical intervention or with the help of a brace, if your unfortunate enough to need a full reconstruction it will normally take up to 9 months if there are no complications, if there has been other complications ie some surface damage and/or cartilage damage then clearly it can be much longer, but it's all very much dependent also on how committed you are to your rehab, but as I said previously wish Danny all the best.

I think the Vokes one was at home against Leicester when we came second in the Championship. It must be six or seven years ago now. I can then remember both Vokes and Ings being out and Ashley Barnes coming into the side and doing really well. I think that Ings came back in before the end of that season. Vokes didn't return until boxing day of the next season when he came on as sub. We were losing against Liverpool and I can remember Sean Dyche shouting 'Sam'!

It might have been a couple of seasons later when Barnes got injured. It was near the end of the season. He fell very awkwardly after a mid air challenge by Fabien Delph at Aston Villa(I think).

Hope this is right. It is straight from memory and I am getting on a bit in years now.

Cruciate Ligament Injuries:
Marney 2017
Jutkiewicz 2015
Barnes 2015
Vokes 2014

Not sure if there were any others in that time period but I remember the conspiracy theories well.

Marney did it in February 2015 after the transfer window had just closed and we'd failed to sign a central midfielder. Then it was Arfield in centre mid for the rest of our first season back in the PL.

Ings played 40 games and scored 21 goals in the league in the 2013-14 season (the Ingsey Vokesey season) according to Wikipedia. He must have only missed a handful of games - probably around the time Vokes was injured. Vokes only missed the last seven games. Ashley Barnes came in and was on the end of one of the best team goals ever scored at Turf Moor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvyOGDUBuf4

Ings played 35 games in the 2014-15 season and scored 11 goals. Vokes only made 5 appearences in the league. Barnes made 28 appearences and scored five goals. He was then injured on 1st May 2015 with a Cruciate Ligament Injury and was out for 244 days. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ashley- ... eler/63200

From Southampton's viewpoint it could have been much worse, and the international break will soften the blow for them, if all goes to plan he could well return for the busy Xmas schedule, the worry for Burnley supporters is their games in early December include Brighton & Sheff Utd, we could really do with them winning both of those, and also the Fulham & West Ham games at the back end of December.

It will be interesting to see how they cope without their talisman, they have other strikers such as Che Adams who can take up the baton, but he'll certainly be a big void for them to fill.
