I met him once before we played Wolves some time back. He was at The Dunkenhalgh night before the game. I always liked Mick McCarthy. But he was very rude that evening and particularly about Burnley.

He was in the bar with his coaching team. Think Terry Connor was one of those with him. I took it as him not wanting to be disturbed night before we played them. But I was surprised at how unnecessarily arsey he was.

Still don't mind him per se. But saw a side to him you dont see in the media.

Top bloke is McCarthy. Always says it as it is.

Absolutely. He was particularly uncomplimentary about Burnley as a place and as a club. Perhaps he was in a mood / winding up.

Ordinarily I like his opinion on things.

I used to attend post-match press conferences and you get an idea of what football managers are really like, people such as Ian Holloway, Warnock, Fergie, Big Sam, Wenger - all brilliant, even when they were beaten. They were a credit to the game. McCarthy on the other hand was an obnoxious pick, and I don't understand why - because his team played well. He was just dismissive of everyone in the room and just plain rude. When he left, everyone just looked at each others trying to figure why he behaved the way he did.

I take people as they come, and I think Mick McCarthy is a cock.

Isn't this the same Mick McCarthy who deliberately played a mainly reserve team against Man U (which he predictably lost,) so he could have a full strength team to play relegation threatened Burnley in the following fixture ? I think the Clarets were relegated and the rules were changed to prevent a reoccurrence of this kind of meddling. Even the Wolves fans at Old Trafford booed their own team when the saw that it was mainly a reserve team that had been put out. McCarthy's actions influenced both top and bottom of the table so all clarets should be slow to praise him as a 'top man.'

Pretty much exactly how he was with us. For no reason at all. We were at a family wedding and the wolves team just happened to be at the same hotel

I think this is why he got so arsey and dismissive about Burnley with cricketfield....who I'm sure wouldn't have welcomed him with open arms! Basically embarrassed at the stunt hed pulled.

No you’d think it was. But this was 2006 which is well before that game.

We had actually just tried to have general football chat with him. But he was totally rude. Only made a bit of small talk about the game and both clubs and comparing similarities between them and us. And he properly slagged us off as a no Mark town and club.

We got beat next day. Typically Jamal Johnson who they had just signed off rovers scored the goal.

We had woke some of the team up after McCarthy annoyed us. Remember banging on the door and waking up their left back Lee Naylor. But that didn’t work. They beat us 1-0.
