Potential positive news re: PPV

Nothing confirmed as yet, and FSA are waiting to speak to the Premier League, but reports coming out that PPV is going to be scrapped with the potential for all games to be shown via Sky/BT/Prime under the current agreements, i.e. if you have a Sky Sports contract and the game is allocated to Sky then you will be able to watch it with no additional charge.

Not confirmed as I've said, but the fact that The Athletic have reported it suggests that confirmation might not be too far from being made public.

The only question is then from when. Obviously it will still be PPV this weekend.

You don’t even need to order something. I just bought prime for the month. Once the game was done cancelled subscription and they refunded whole amount

Thing is I order stuff regularly so will get something I need and no p&p and Burnley for free

If true it's an acknowledgement that the scheme was severely flawed from the outset. Consideration of refunding previous purchases should be given I suggest.

There is no chance of getting refunds - I foolishly paid for West Brom but didn't for Chelsea and I'll also be missing tomorrow's game at Brighton.

But the pressure we've put on the PL from the FSA has been a major part of any success.

I had one last year because I was having a lot of stuff delivered. I rejoined Prime on Prime Day so I could get an offer on an item and was given another free month. I'll be having to subscribe in December for the game v Villa which is scheduled for Prime.

Hopefully they will get a lot more matches at some stage in the future. It looks like they are testing to see whether they can make a profit out of it or entice people into becoming permanent members. They are a giant organisation and should be able to compete with the likes of Sky and BT.

If you only want it for football at the moment just take a trial out at the beginning of December every year and you get it for free. If you pay monthly for prime membership (£7.99) and just watch the two Burnley games it works out at £47.94 per game. If you watch a few of the other games and football talk shows around them it works out fairly cheap.

There are also thousands of movies including a few recent ones such as 'Midway', 'Rambo Last Blood', and '1917'. You can also get 'next day delivery' free on all sorts of items. This has come in handy lots of times for me over the last year.

The biggest pain for me with Prime is having to sit at my PC to watch anything with not being able to get it on my TV.

I have a BT TV box, that has a " Amazon Prime" channel on it.

You can connect HDMI wire from your laptop/pc to the TV to watch the game on the TV.

That’s the way I’d go, no messing about with minimum amount of fuss you can even get HDMI extension ports if you planned on keeping the same TV & wanted multiple devices hooked up to the existing TV.

You can blame regulation for the current situation. it was designed to aid the consumer. It led to inflated pricing.

But as it happens, there are more games being shown live than there has ever been. What do you propose in terms of the current model? Same price for more?

I thought PPV was a fairly pragmatic model to help the clubs given that a lot of games not part of packages had been shown free and that wasn't / isn't likely to continue. But one thing is for sure, if you don't like PPV you probably won't like the prices when you are next able to get into a ground because this will all have to be recouped somehow.

I have no problem with PPV. I can’t go on the turf without paying, so I don’t expect to watch now for free.

What I DO have an issue with (Like most right minded folk) is the cost. It should be far cheaper than it is. Bizarrely (or is it considering he’s a millionaire) our boss seems to think it’s ok?

Footballs long since lost touch with the masses, due to transfer fees and wages, and it’s well on its way to losing touch with reality when you add in ppv in its current guise and VAR.

If it wasnt for Burnley enjoying the best of times, I’d quite easily find something else to occupy my time.

Re Amazon, from experience if you took out a subscription, and cancelled a couple of days later, you would receive almost a full refund as it ends there and then. I’m sure then you could subscribe for the match and cancel after with almost no cost.

Exactly, he made a faux pas when he said that, and I paraphrase, 'as a Burnley fan I would pay to watch it'. I don't think he in any way intended this to sound like those who didn't pay weren't Burnley fans, but it could have been worded better.

I did get a surprise when trying to buy the Chelsea game that I couldn’t buy it via the TV because I don’t have a BT subscription. I could buy and watch online but I may as well watch a stream as do that - so I did. Annoying that it kept a hanging or skipping back to 15 minutes throughout though. Feels like we have a very backward way of broadcasting football when you consider other countries can watch every game!

Do hope whatever the decision that it doesn’t impact us negatively from a financial perspective. This takeover is dragging on and if not finalised by January, I don’t want the club to have another excuse for not strengthening.

I've no problem with ppv. Yes, lower prices are always welcome. I'll pay my £14.95 for the Brighton game this evening. Before £30 for away fans (and £20 at Soton), we were often paying £50+ at Chelsea, Arsenal etc and, I'm sure the same at Old Trafford etc, if you could get a ticket.

Quality of ppv has been good - especially compared with the free stream experience described by New.

Have a look at the posts above Doug. The Amazon matches are on in December. If you take out a free trial at the beginning of December you get the matches and all of Prime for free. You can then cancel before the end of December.

Now TV day passes are very similar to PPV. They cost £9.99. I guess the PPV price reflects the extra cost of televising additional matches plus the 'skimming of profits off the top'.
