Mansfield have been massive underachievers for a few years now. They've had a lot of money put into them by the owner. Every season they start off as favourites for promotion and consistently fall short.

So he’s managed Forest, Derby, Burton and Mansfield. He’s not a commuter is he.

You can actually triangulate Nigel clough’s house from the teams he’s managed.

He will be happy today after leaving thousands of Mackems disappointed.

Mansfield are my brother’s team. He’ll be pleased at this appointment.

Big result for him winning at Sunderland, that just shows what they're capable of if they apply themselves, whether he'll take them up this year idk, but his track record does suggest that he'll get them promoted sooner or later if he's given the chance to get his feet under the table.

I was born in Burnley, and he was born in Mansfield. We moved to Canada when he was still a baby, and he made his decision on which team to support during a brief moment in history when Mansfield were in a division above us. He claims to have no regrets.

Read Phil Stant's autobiography some years back 'Ooh Ah Stantona'
He served in the Falklands War.
Bolton born, and was in Stan Ternent's Bury side; Stan wrote the foreward to Stant's book.
I too felt he was a player who might have played for us at one time.

Yes you're quite correct CT, I thought he'd had success elsewhere but surprisingly that's not the case, however I think it's fair to say Mansfield are a similarly sized outfit to Burton, and no doubt the powers that be will hope he can do a similar job to the one he did at the Brewers.

Didn’t progress Derby and was a bit of a disaster at Sheff U.

I would say two 1/2 promotions, he left them 13 points clear at the top in January 09 when he went Derby and then joined them in December 2015 when Hasselbaink went QPR but they were quite clear at the top from memory at the time.
