Saints v Newcastle
Saints v Newcastle
Che Adams scores again, starting to look like a bargain at 15 million. Southampton's biggest problem this season might turn out to be keeping hold of their manager.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
Not really, they wanted 15m, we offered 10, or was it 12m?
You say missed out, we often look busy with no actual real effort.
I could put a bid in to buy messi for my 5 aside team, there's teams that actually play seriously and us that p1ss f4nny about pretending we want to be part of it.
I'm amazed fans still fall for Mike's smoke and mirrors games window after window.

Go top with a win Southampton. £15 million may be a bargain in todays world but it is around 15 times what we could ever afford. Living in 1997.

He seems to have bided his time at Southampton and is now looking good.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
The irony in you trying to point out that irony is brilliant,
A lot of people cba paying to watch the strike force that Brighton had nearly a decade ago playing against Brighton for us now...... and being surprised that we haven’t advanced.
Re: Saints v Newcastle
Incorrect, but good try.
Fans paying £15 for PPV ( a situation that occurred after the window closed ) has no bearing on whetger a club spends the money it receives from sky tv on players.
Other than that, great point
Re: Saints v Newcastle
It does though doesn’t it. Burnley FC didn’t think there was any value in our targets. The club has lost millions over the past 9 months and can no longer sign players for £15m on 3 year contracts without any idea what income they’ll be receiving through tv money and gates during that time.
People now don’t see the value spending £15 on PPV games since most have them would have been furloughed and can’t really justify paying it.
So yes, it is a great point.

Staggering turnabout in Southampton's form, a year ago they couldn't buy a win, now they can't stop winning, it's amazing what confidence does to a team.
Ralph Hasenhüttl has done a cracking job, and if they carry on like this he'll be a shoe in for the MOTY award surely.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
Not watching this game but it seems that Adams has made the step up. He looked a little out of his depth last year, good for him.
Southampton have had decent players for years and have seriously underperformed. That squad should be capable of top-half finishes.

I may be wrong but I don't think he's spent a fortune either. Worked with what he had and made a few shrewd acquisitions.

Had we sold either Barnes or Vydra then Adams' fee would have been substantially reduced technically.
also, that's all Vydra did for most of the season. 2 strikers will always be sat on the bench.

How is that not a penalty for the foul on Walcott, a big six team would have been awarded that I'm sure.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
Baffled me why we triggered Brady's extension, he offers little when he's fit, and that's not often. Getting rid of Hendrick wasn't a problem in itself, the problem wasn't replacing him, and that is now becoming more apparent by the week.Blackburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 9:17 pmHendricks is absolutely terrible. 2-0 the Saints are heading to the summit almost a year to the day they were rooted to the foot of the table, I've seen this story somewhere before.

But thats what a good progressive recruitment policy is about. Bring in players with potential and then grow them in to the first team and into better and more valuable assets.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 10:29 pmI was referring to his prolific record last season
Its one of the things we used to do well with people like Ward taking 18 months to make an impact, Tarks coming in as backup, Keane growing into a first team role, Taylor as understudy for Ward and Pope as one for the future to come in after Heaton
For whatever reason we have become in a position where too often we have to try and get a cheap player, who is a pretty safe bet and can have an instant impact which leaves us signing aging experienced solid pros like Bardsley, Pieters, Crouch, Walters, Lennon and Stephens

I watched quite a lot of the Saints' game with a couple of Geordies. They were giving Hendrick some real stick.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
He needs to go as well when his contracts up. Is anybody really surprised that just a handful of games into a new season, both Brady & JBG have missed games already, we can't rely on either contributing in a meaningful manner, and it's time to get rid in the summer, and get some new blood in, hopefully a couple of young hungry wingers who'll at least attempt to take a man on now and again, and try and create something. If we can't buy them then let's at least take a look at the development squads, that's where Dwight came from after all.

Re: Saints v Newcastle
Probably because Garlick knew that would add another player to the list he needed to sign when he had no intention of signing any/very few.
Dwight is basically un-subbable because we have nobody even approaching his quality to bring on. We’re now in a position where we need a first team RW (assuming JBG can stay fit enough to cover) and a back-up LW.
You could argue we did replace Hendrick with Brownhill. Issue to me is that Hendrick was playing out of position because we didn’t have a RW and nobody has recognised/resolved that issue
