Tech Help 2: Samsung TV bad on black
I got a new 8k samsung qled telly recently (wanna see my 8k watch?) which seems smashing on everything except dark tv shows, specifically on netflix.
I watch through my xbox (if it matters) and dark games are fine, films through the xbox store are fine, tv shows on prime seem fine (albeit I haven't watched anything really dark on there) and dvd's seem fine. It just seems to be the netflix app which is giving me grief.
Any ideas?
Ta again!

Have you got the “premium” package?
Have you checked on the account (logging in online) to make sure you have turned up the quality of your streams on the account?

I never realised that the higher packages improved quality, I thought it was just number of devices - so I need to upgrade to the 11.99 a month set to watch horrors on netflix on mi fancy new telly?!

Double check but I’m sure the “premium” ones offer more UHD etc content.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 3:35 pmI never realised that the higher packages improved quality, I thought it was just number of devices - so I need to upgrade to the 11.99 a month set to watch horrors on netflix on mi fancy new telly?!

Yep. £11.99 a month for UHD stuff on Netflix.
Try logging into your account on a laptop/comp though and playing with the settings because I’m sure you can up the quality that way too a little.

Ta. Have upgraded so I guess I'll see what difference it makes a bit later.

Also try this when you get a chance - might have to change settings even though you’ve upgraded.

its all well and good having the premium service to get UHD content, thing is, the actual content that is UHD is limited.
I still have m 3D glasses for my Sony TV... used them once on a demo channel on Sky a long time ago. I accept that UHD content is different, but when you're at the bleeding edge the content is lust glossy brochure stuff IMO.

You need a premium package to watch Netflix in HDR.
If you're comparing Netflix in SDR to other content in HDR it will be a lot dimmer.
There's separate picture modes for HDR and SDR too, so the settings you key in for one is different to the other. When you stream non HDR content you'll get different settings to HDR and you can tweak them independently.

I have a 3D TV too and used to pay Sky a fortune, for that channel....which suddenly disappeared!Zlatan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 3:51 pmits all well and good having the premium service to get UHD content, thing is, the actual content that is UHD is limited.

On a tech issue my Sky+ TV guide has suddenly stopped showing any information for channel 103 - all other info is still there abs I have info for channel 293 for ITV+1. Can still watch ITV/103 just can’t pause or record it. Strange one !

Is it me or is nearly everything is shot in dark mode nowadays? I think it's supposed to replicate being in a cinema and I sit at home watching HDR and UHD thinking I'm wearing sunglasses
