Who is Burnley’s most technical player

According to Charlie Taylor we don’t have any. Haha that’s if you believe the video the club put out.

All jokes aside it made me think who do you think is Burnley’s most technical player?

I am going to go either JBG or McNeil

He actually said it was McNeil, I think you have been fooled by his joke with Pope

That’s probably why I mentioned “all jokes aside”

They said Dwight would be upset if they didn't say him. I thought it was interesting that they said Vydra was the fastest and it wasn't even close. Shame that we so rarely take advantage of that. Still, why put a ball over the top for a fast striker to chase when you can lump it up to a big centre forward.

He should be dropped, if someone spoke like that about their fellow work colleagues they would be down the road

Doesn’t matter how fast Vydra is if he’s sat on the bench

First touch is also technique, so JBG would be included, along with McNeil and Vydra.

I was once watching Ashley Barnes warming up before a game with Westwood. They were hitting long balls to each other the full width of the pitch, one touch and fire back. Barnes' first touch, control and accuracy with his cross back was very impressive whereas Westwood was pretty average.

Some of Barnes’s control, of very difficult balls, is really impressive. He doesn’t always get the credit some of his play deserves, usually because he’s seen as more of a nuisance than anything else.

Need to define 'technical player', Newcastleclaret93. Do you mean a player with a wide range of techniques?

Dwight McNeil has nearly all the letters of "Technical" except the "a" and Charlie Taylor all except the "n" in their names...

So both have the most "Technical" letters in their names 🙂

I am assuming they are referring to technical football skill like touch, accuracy, balance etc...

Wrong wrong wrong on all levels

I'd nominate Jack Cork, can be great with the ball at his feet. Just my opinion.

Vydra. You don’t score the goal he scored against Southampton last season unless you’re incredibly gifted.

Hope he starts to get more of a chance, though I shan’t hold my breath.

I watched Barnes at an away game doing his shooting practice. After watching that I made a point of watching him do this whenever possible. Whether it was from a standstill, a ball over his head - or a ball drilled to him, he hit the net @9/10. I was very impressed with his accuracy. Wish he’d do it in games.

Barnes has scored some crackers for us down the years, and when he connects with a ball it stays hit, and if it's on target not many keepers will stop it.

In regards to the op, I'd say Cork, Jay Rod, McNeil & Vydra would be my top 4.

I love Barnes at his best. My favourite Barnes goal is the West Ham away one. This video from the west ham fans perspective is one of my go to, cheer me ups. Skip to 1:00 and watch Barnes crack that one in and the burnley fans bounce whilst the west ham fans groan!!

https://youtu.be/q8EWctSLnNQ

My Dad and I went to the etihad for the fa Cup defeat a few years back. Barnes was put through and scored a cracker (nevermind the second half). My dad asked me "When did Barnes through on goal become a sure thing?“ and it was true for a time. He didn't get many one on one's but he scored some great goals up to his injury. We only get sniffs at goal but he would take them. Hopefully he will get back there!

There was a stat a while ago that Barnes hadn't scored a goal for us when taking more than two touches. I presume it still stands?
He does have a great technique for scoring instinctive goals.

Barnes is the most technically gifted of the team, I think. Some of the goals he's scored for us in the last couple of years have been superb.

Can’t believe people are suggesting Barnes as our most technically gifted player. I know he’s better than given credit for but I would go as far to say Jay, Vydra, Gudmundsson, McNeil, Westwood, brownhill, Brady, Pieters, and maybe even Bardsley and Lowton are all more technically gifted players. Surprised nobody has mentioned brownhill. Very good strike on him as we saw in the cup and good on the ball.

Sticking you backside into a defender and throwing yourself to the flow in one seamless movement takes considerable technical ability - Barnes gets my vote

It's between JBG and McNeil without a doubt. The only 2 who can actually take someone on

Think there was a stat a bit ago that he’s never scored for us with more than 2 touches before shooting.

Shows how deadly his finishing is because he touches and let’s it go. Rather than having to line it up etc

Barnes is the most gifted striker of a ball, we don't have any truly technically gifted players, Defour was the last. You need to be able to always receive the ball in tight spaces, and be able to find those passes that no-one else sees, like De-Bruyne.

Quite possibly Vydra 🙄, if,as some are saying he is also the fastest, it is criminal that he isn’t been played 😞No wonder we are bottom of the division 😕

An argument could be made for McNeil, JBG, Vydra or id possibly throw Jay into the mix.

If only we had another Robbie Blake, he’s possibly the most technically gifted player iv seen play for us and that includes Defour.

No denying De Bruyne has great technique but playing a pass and seeing a pass are two different things. Seeing a pass is more about a players vision than their technique. Technique is more about how you execute the move. Be it a pass, shot, cross, header, dribble, control etc

A player like Westwood has great technique, but you can't say he has much vision or creativity to pick a forward pass.

You have players like Barnes who has excellent close control, can hit a shot first time very cleanly but rarely will play a good through ball.

That's the problem with our squad, we have players will great technique but it's the creativity, flair and vision that we lack. He probably won't keep fit but Lallana was a great signing for Brighton and exactly the kind of player we lack.

Our players are very limited. Pope is another example, great technique when saving, handling etc but awful kicking.
