Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
When I worked at Bradford Royal Infirmary( BRI) one of my colleagues wife worked at St Luke’s Hospital the other side of of the valley. On 5 consecutive nights he got pulled up asking where he was going, he was going to pick her up On each occasion he said you stopped me up last night, no links to what had happened previously.
On a lighter note we used to go for a lunch time shandy, at least 4 pints, Hare and Hounds at Heston 1 mile from where he lived I was in the bogs and suddenly found myself being interviewed by a Police Sergeant asking where I’d been the previous night, unfortunately a murder had taken place. I answered all his questions, however me and my driver had to walk back to work, I am sure you will know why and he had to leave his car as the Coppers were parked next to his car

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
I know Peter Sutcliffe was a bit dodgy but there's no need for some of the comments on this thread. He was a human being.

Unfortunately, I think the Police just overloaded with information they couldn’t cross reference and then idiot starts sending stuff saying it was him doing it. I remember it being played, not sure if it was radio or tv but can certainly remember it.bodge wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 5:50 pmThe thing I can't get my head round with the whole Ripper business, was how no one recognised Wearside Jack's voice aka John Humble who died in July 2019.
It was on the tv and radio loads of times, didn't a voice analyst identify it came from a particular area of Sunderland ?
Sutcliffe was responsible for more attacks than those attributed to him or at least there is a lot of pointers to him being the perpetrator.
All it did was take resources away from the real killer.

A bit dodgy, there’s an understatement. He killed women with a hammer, stabbed them with screwdrivers and then removed parts of their bodies mutilating them severely.

There's no denying it though, some people did like him & have a lot of time for him, plenty of people requested ,& did visit him whilst in prison.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 6:10 pmA bit dodgy, there’s an understatement. Sutcliffe's final legal application was to the High Court on the basis that his continued imprisonment was a breach of his human rights

'Overloaded' is an under-statement. Civil engineers were called into the investigation headquarters at it's peak to see if the floor could take the strain of 4 tons of paper.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 6:07 pmUnfortunately, I think the Police just overloaded with information they couldn’t cross reference and then idiot starts sending stuff saying it was him doing it. I think you've stepped the line. Peter Sutcliffe was a vile human being, but Nick Knowles is just evil personified.

Yes they did a couple of decades later.

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
I may be wrong - and, frankly, I would be happy if I were - but do I remember that there was a horrible football chant at that time. It was sung to Police at games - “You’ll Never Catch The Ripper “.
As my memory is suspect, I won’t name the team whose fans were, I think, responsible.
Does anyone else remember this? Or have I slipped into senility?

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
I worked for a transport haulier in Yorkshire and my average finish times were 2-4 am.
I was stopped so many times that when the patrol car stopped beside me, I just emptied my duffel bag onto the pavement.
I could easily have done an 'I'm Jack' tape, every time I was stopped they asked me if I had a screwdriver or hammer in the bag.

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
I used to be a police officer in bingley! just after he was arrested . A few months after I arrested his brother Carl for burglary and his other brother Mick was untouchable! possibly the worst of the three but only my opinion, it was well known that he used to carry a shotgun in his car . Their mother thought she had lovely boys. Could not have happened on a better day friday 13th.

Always sad when someone dies. RIP
Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
Mick was the worst of the two brothers, from my experience. I couldn't say either were worse than their murdering brother. Burglaries were probably at the lower end of some of the things they were up to though.darringtonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 10:23 pmI used to be a police officer in bingley! just after he was arrested . Glad he's dead and it's a shame it didn't happen years ago. As for the couple attention seeking idiots - you're not clever or smart, just incredibly needy and profoundly inadequate.

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
You could be from Durham, Chester le street, Sunderland etc, it’s very difficult to pinpoint the exact dialects for any normal person the voice analysts did conclude he was from the Castletown area of Sunderland after listening to the recording, even then you still need some sort of DNA to match & when the cold case was reviewed the gummed seal from the envelope was enough on a billion to 1 match, I think humble later on had provided the police in a unrelated incident with his DNA if he hadn’t to this day we wouldn’t have known wearside jacks identity.bodge wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 5:50 pmThe thing I can't get my head round with the whole Ripper business, was how no one recognised Wearside Jack's voice aka John Humble who died in July 2019.

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
Some religions, Christianity being one, teach their followers to forgive others for their sins, so I personally wouldn’t call it sick for someone to say RIP.
I’m not religious and the world is a better place without this person, just offering a reason why some people may offer up a comment like this.

Re: The Yorkshire Ripper
So if a family member or friend of yours was recorded on tape, you would think on hearing it, that's someone from Burnley rather than your "Uncle Alan" or my mate i go for a pint with every week ?
People's voices are all different, obviously accents are very similar. Anyway, clearly he wasn't recognised but i find it staggering.

Due to the nature of the recording it's logical to assume traces of disguise would have been applied, it's different when with a group of friends & it's somebody round & you say a pint of carling or whatever applicable.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 1:05 pmI have just listened to the recording, it’s not very clear to decide if you knew that person, in my humble opinion.

In West Yorkshire, when I ask for a pint of Carling, they often give me a pint of Coors. Not sure what language Carling sounds like Coors to be honest!Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 1:24 pmDue to the nature of the recording it's logical to assume traces of disguise would have been applied, it's different when with a group of friends & it's somebody round & you say a pint of carling or whatever applicable.
