Exactly that reason! On sporting merit he would be losing his seat this season with Perez being retained instead but due to "Daddy" pulling the strings he stays in, also something happened similar a few years with Williams, Williams wanted to get rid of Stroll but Stroll senior was funding the team, so he withdrew all the funding because he wouldn't believe the race/qualifying stats from Stroll's performances being poor in the car.

Sad but true. Sign of the times.

Take away Ferrari/Merc/McLaren/Redbull and the rest are pretty much funded through the drivers various sponsorships/daddys.

Stroll did really well today but over the course of 4 seasons or whatever he's hardly been above average at best.

I always think wet conditions like that show who the best drivers are rather than just those with the best cars. Schumacher, the “regenmeister”, used to excel in those sorts of conditions. For a while today, Verstappen was head and shoulders above the rest but the team got the tyre choice wrong for the final stint whereas the Racing Point guys got it spot on. Raikkonen also showed his ability and experience, although Giovinazzi did well in the Alfa too.

Some penalties incoming due to the yellow flags

Stroll has avoided any penalty so looks like his PP will stand. Some penalties for blocking for sainz and something for Norris.

Was a right mess in qualy, so will probably take a few hours for a certain picture.

The wet really levels the field and the true super talents like Verstappen and Raikkonen really show their stuff . Suprised how Hamilton struggled though .Stroll’s ( I had a dream ...and a billion dollars ) team got the tyre call on perfect timing with a good showing from Albon and remarkable stuff from Kimi who top 4 in all Q sessions in a car woefully underpowered . Slippery rather than soaking could be good fun tomorrowv

Whilst I agree about Stroll he's still a pretty quick driver. You don't put a car on pole in F1 if you aren't.
There's been a lot poorer drivers in the sport then him in the past also for financial reasons. But if you do your research on him he was no slouch in the junior categories. Yes he jumped straight from f3 too F1 but it's not like he hasn't won anything.

Perez wouldn't be in F1 if it wasn't for the money he brings. He's a much better driver than Stroll but also s lot more experienced.

As a force India racing point etc fan, I'm really unhappy with the dropping of perez for next season in favour of vettel.

It's wrong on so many levels. Perez saved the team from near extinction and on this seasons evidence, there is nothing to show that vettel will be anything but a retrograde step.

Looks like a wet track to start with rain on the way, so assume they’ll have to start on inters and swap to wets fairly early on!

I never seen anyone handle driving in the wet like Hamilton, yet he was shite today, so maybe there is a lot more to it than just the rain.

As much as I like hiom he does tend to whinge and feel sorry for himself, when everyone else just gets on with it. He should take a leaf from Verstappen, it's the same for everybody.

Staying on the track is hard enough, so overtaking is impossible. I should think todays race will have the fewest ever finishers, and the winner. Toss a coin.

Think this particular race is also hindered by the new surface being very sloppy. Mercs just can’t get the car set up properly to find any grip - Bottas just having his third spin. Agree it’s same for all though. Other teams doing much better on setup this week, which makes F1 much more exciting.

Bottas showing he is so far out of his depth. He should be nowhere near a Mercedes.

I cannot believe that no one tried the softs today. "It's gonna rain heavy on the last lap" yeah right, they say that every time there's a GP with clouds above it.

Too much of a risk I think. Had the Ferraris been further back the Red Bulls would have had a go on slicks. Too much of a risk losing points whilst the Ferraris were 3rd and 4th.

When Hamilton was 6th and out-braked himself going for the overtake, a friend of mine messaged me saying how these conditions bring the best drivers to the fore and it shows how Hamilton isn't that good when the conditions don't suit him and the car.

As frustrating as his hypocrisy can be sometimes, I think that result sums his career up. Yet another masterclass and I don't doubt he will achieve an 8th world title before he calls it a day.

Bottas does everything Mercedes need and want of him.

The only thing that would change their mind is if Lewis leaves, which I can only see happening to quit F1. No way he'd move teams... even if Ferrari got some pace.

I'm still certain Brundle was right saying those tyres would immediately be 10 seconds a lap quicker.

If Danny Ric wasn't in the points, I reckon he'd have switched after he had his spin just before the pit entry with a few laps left.

Shame no one did, it would have been nice to see just how they'd have worked.

Felt pretty sorry for Stroll though. Didn’t want to pit and then couldn’t get the new tyres to work while Perez steamed on. Not sure he’d have claimed a podium either way but think he’d have got a better result.

I’m with of there. I hoped someone would have tried. Teams all had valuable points though. The coming good of Ferrari certainly changed it. They’ve closed the gap on teams around them a bit now. Getting close between Renault, Racing Point and Ferrari. Looking at it the Red Bulls are well ahead so should have had a go.

Tbh, I think Lewis would drive for whoever had the most pace.

Reckon he’d fancy a season or two at Ferrari to help recover their fortunes if ever they found some pace.

I think he may well get to 10 world titles. Think only the changes in 2022 could prevent it. He will be world champion again next season.

Oh well, on to Bahrain. It'll be interesting to see what the outer track is like.

Best season I can remember, certainly since the "hybrid era" anyway.

Shame F1 don't appreciate all these new tracks have done for them this season and are going back to all the Tilke-dromes next season - it'll be back to boring business as usual.
