Peter Allis
Peter's voice has changed significantly. Wonder if he's had surgery or radio to his throat?

Noticed that. Not quite the same tones. He must be in his 90s now surely? But still miles better than Nick Dougherty and Andrew Coltart on Sky who seem to think they have to fill every second with drivel. No silences allowed.

Re: Peter Allis
Id like to freshen it up with someone like Alex Scott. I want a commentator with their finger on the pulse rather than one foot in the grave
Re: Peter Allis
Glad to see Peter Allis still commentating , had a good rapport with ken brown.
I prefer bbc to sky, also been watching cbs coverage with Jim nantz , faldo, and baker finch. Very good aswell.

Nah, we've got Eilidh already freshening it up. Wouldn't want one saying wiv and fink. Hazel Irvine was class.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:46 pmId like to freshen it up with someone like Alex Scott. I want a commentator with their finger on the pulse rather than one foot in the grave

Re: Peter Allis
She's good but need a few on the coattails as the BBC Golf team are bloody dinosaurs. That said Sky are the kings of Golf so as long as they are keeping things fresh then who cares about the terrestrial pensionersbasil6345789 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:56 pmNah, we've got Eilidh already freshening it up. Re: Peter Allis
Not far off is he? He'll be 90 in Feb. And by googling him I've just learned that he was born in Berlin.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:38 pmNoticed that. Not quite the same tones. Interesting time to be in Berlin! Wonder what the family were doing there. I thought I remembered him saying his dad was also a golfer but may be wrong.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 1:23 pmNot far off is he? He'll be 90 in Feb. And by googling him I've just learned that he was born in Berlin.

His dad was a golfer and was employed as a golf pro in Berlin at the time Peter was born.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 5:19 pmInteresting time to be in Berlin! Wonder what the family were doing there. I thought I remembered him saying his dad was also a golfer but may be wrong.

Re: Peter Allis
I see. Late 20s/ early 30s must have been an interesting time to be in Germany.

The speech he made when inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame is on " you-tube ", a very entertaining fifteen minutes or so ...

Re: Peter Allis
I've watched the BBC programme about Peter Alliss - so good I watched it twice!
However, there is no mention of his son, Gary Alliss, well known golfer and coach, from his first marriage which ended in divorce.
Indeed, he said the break up was a very sad time.
Must've been bad blood living on from that.

Re: Peter Allis
Mrs Allis organises an annual golf event for a Spinal Injuries charity. Her husband is always there to support her and is at the first tee to call forward each player.
Nerve-racking (to say the least) to hear the great man’s voice announce you by name in front of about 50 other players etc. Sally Gunnel guaranteed

Re: Peter Allis
I caught a bit of the BBC program yesterday as well. Never realised he'd been the pro at Moor Allerton in Leeds at one point.
