Re: Des O'Connor
I can't say I'm surprised by the news, he looked very frail when I saw him on a panel show 2-3 years ago. A very big difference to when he did the Des & Mel show.

RIP Des. Seem to remember he did well with the ladies, wasn't he married to a much younger woman ?

Re: Des O'Connor
Went to see him at Blackpool two years ago he was on stage with Tarby. His wife was sat behind me and got up near the end of the show and belted out a couple of songs on the stage.
The entertaiment when I got back to the hotel was a better standard than what was on stage that night.

It's hard to imagine Des, and not think of Morcambe and Wise.
Des had a great career anyway, but the jokes din't do him any harm at all.
RIP

Re: Des O'Connor
Not posting the content of this due to his passing, it's just a coincidence. An episode of Take Your Pick. Very funny, especially towards the end of the clip.

Re: Des O'Connor
My guilty pleasure was watching Today with Des & Mel, the reason I liked it is because there was a genuine on-screen chemistry with Des and Melanie Sykes. A pairing you wouldnt think would work.

Bradley Walsh was given his early TV exposure by Des O'Connor

Old time professional very popular during 60s and 70s. I thought his shows were watchable with some acts like Jack Douglass, the twins(?) and the bloke that sung Mule Train whilst bashing a tray over his head.

Morecambe & Wise came straight into my head and, as you say, when you were targeted by them in did you no harm at all.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 10:13 amIt's hard to imagine Des, and not think of Morcambe and Wise.

When Eric had his first heart attack, Des O'Connor went on stage in Paignton I think and asked his audience to pray for him. Eric always said he thought those three people praying helped him pull through.
Des O'Connor was, to the day, 20 years older than me. I'd like to think I'd have another twenty years.

Re: Des O'Connor
RIP made a great career out of very little talent, seemed like a genuine down to earth guy which came across well.
