Amazon Prime Members
Amazon Prime Members
I received an email tonight from Amazon thanking me for signing up to the Starzplay (new-ish streaming service) free trial. It's a 7 day trial and I'll start paying £4.99 a month at the end of it. I didn't sign up to this at all and there didn't seem to be any way whatsoever to cancel it within my Amazon account, I had to contact customer services who have cancelled it for me.
Not sure if it was just an error with my account, but check your emails and subscriptions.

Re: Amazon Prime Members
They make it very easy for you to sign up to stuff like this by accident.
All it takes is trying to play a show listed on their streaming service provided by a 3rd party and just one screen later you've signed up to a free trial leading to a subscription.
It wouldn't have happened on its own, so someone with access to your account/fire TV/stick/app would have done it.

The half dozen or so people who use mine are all under strict instructions not to buy or sign up for anything!!superdimitri wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 9:16 pmThey make it very easy for you to sign up to stuff like this by accident.

So far they've all behaved themselves.

I had a week away over half term in October and the cottage I stayed in had a smart TV with someone else’s Prime account logged in. I did the right thing though, and used the account all week (saved using my fire stick which was slow and old) and then I logged the account out at the end of the week

Re: Amazon Prime Members
According to the helpful person on the chat helpline, it was an 'error' on my account for which they apologise profusely! So all fine, just want to make others aware. The hardest bit was cancelling.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 9:16 pmThey make it very easy for you to sign up to stuff like this by accident.

Re: Amazon Prime Members
Luckily they have good customer service but it's almost certainly not something that happened on their end. Someone (or you) had access to your account and choose to watch something in prime that required a subscription and accidentally signed up to the trial.
Make sure that you talk to anyone who uses your account and explain how it happens so it doesn't happen again with something else.
Its easily done, believe me. They don't separate content on prime video that are part of external streaming services they call 'channels'. They look exactly the same as the thumbnails that are free on Amazon.
All it takes is two clicks or some lag and you sign up to some free trial.
Just trying to explain how it happens,so you can be sure it doesn't again. If your don't share your account or Amazon devices with anyone who may have done it, change your password in case you've been hacked.
For example, if you share your prime benefits with another relative in another household they may also have signed up to it.
I understand you made your post trying to help others, but I'm only trying to help you so you can ensure it doesn't happen again.
Re: Amazon Prime Members
the strange thing for me was having to sign up for Prime in the UK and then again in USA, same login, different account with basically the same yearly payments, same name, etc, but having family and living in both locations needed two accounts or paying the additional shipping. Not so much a global company in reality, geared to make money and not to provide an optimal service, but not the only one, Moon Pig is a prime example, so frustrating trying to send cards a few times a year.
Asked Alexa to play Travelling Willbouries (yes I know spelling) today, I have to play through an Amazon app and we will charge you per month after the 30 day free trial, grrrrr so annoying, needless to say a no, but at least this affords a mechanism to say no, rather than the annoying issues where you find you have signed online without knowing!!

Fair enough, it could well have been my baby son playing with my phonesuperdimitri wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 2:39 amLuckily they have good customer service but it's almost certainly not something that happened on their end. Still, if it's that easy to sign up to the trial, but mega difficult to cancel, it's still a warning of sorts to others haha.

Re: Amazon Prime Members
True that, KateR..... I just ordered an infrared patio heater that is available in both 110 and 220 volts. Even though signed in with my US account, somehow it picked up on my UK account (which I use only for gifts for friends and family gifts living in the UK) and is sending me the 220vKateR wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:52 amthe strange thing for me was having to sign up for Prime in the UK and then again in USA, same login, different account with basically the same yearly payments, same name, etc, but having family and living in both locations needed two accounts or paying the additional shipping. Fortunately the Chinese supplier has responded and is correcting the order

Re: Amazon Prime Members
The one thing that peas me off about Prime Video is their paid content. The account holder should be able to hide all the Videos which aren't included in the Prime subscription.

Re: Amazon Prime Members
Not sure what device you are using to watch Prime Video, but when I go into Prime Video I see a menu item across the top that says "Free to me" and this filters out everything that costs extra to watch.

Daz, I'll have a look for that option, I mustn't have looked hard enough. Cheers.

Re: Amazon Prime Members
Side note, I watched Dark Waters last night, definitely recommend it, based on a true story.
Re: Amazon Prime Members
Are you referring to Starzplay? While everything else - Prime Music Unlimited and Prime itself - is very easy to cancel, there was no option to cancel the Starzplay within my subs. I had to contact customer service who, to be fair, did it straight away.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 2:12 pmNot read the whole thread, but its very easy to click on it within your Amazon to start a free trail... Re: Amazon Prime Members
I don't know, but I hope so. I want to set up it like Netflix where everything you see is included in the subscription. I refuse to pay for more TV. We currently have Netflix, Prime and Sky, though I'm binning Sky when our contract is up and I'll be buying a couple of Arris Freesat HDR boxes.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:19 pmDo you know if it also filters out the free trial channel content?
