Too much ambiguity in football these days. We are seeing players sent off for following through on players and the fact they get a touch on the ball is ignored.
Yet in this incident the defender goes through to bring the player down for a penalty but his touch on the ball is not ignored.
In one case the touch on the ball is ignored , in the other case the touch on the ball isn’t ignored.
What is it to be?

Only a handful of games in and already three results away from the team in 16th. Still early, but we badly need a win on Monday
I think now we have a stronger defence we'll at least have a realistic chance of picking up 1-3 points more often. Without Mee I wasn't confident at all.

Brave decision from Oliver and the right one. Even if he hadn’t got the ball, the touch was so slight it was never a foul. Don’t be brainwashed by the media, contact does not equal foul.

Most obvious swan dive ever, never a penalty in a million years.

Weren't Brighton the team to benefit most from VAR last season?

Agree about the defence being stronger with Mee back in it. More the other end of the pitch I'm worried about. 3 goals in 7 games (1 in the last 6) a massive concern.

Had to cancel the penalty because VAR would not accept the original decision. Ball was played by March and Trezeguet followed the normal pattern of being hit by a sniper and went down screaming.
Ball was played, tackle was not reckless, out of control or causing danger to an opponent, therefore, no penalty ----just as it used to be in the good old pre VAR days. The only complication these days is the fact that the ball doesn't matterin so many tackles as was seen when Hayden was booked at Newcastle today for a smashing tackle.
The game is dying on its feet because they have messed around with The Laws of the Game too much.

1-0 Spurs that man Son again, City poor at the back, but they are creating chances, I can't see this finishing 1-0.

Your last sentence just about sums football up at the moment Ashington. Many people are so fed up with football and the direction it is going.

I can only speak for myself, but there being no fans has made football a lot more boring. Of course, it is what it is, but I think this whole Covid-19 has shown that football is almost nothing without fans. I'm rarely watching the games and didn't even watch the Man City - Liverpool game, whereas normally, I'd be all over a game like that.

Maybe next season when hopefully the fans are back in, it will bring a lot more excitement back to the game.

As much as the handball rule is now ridiculous, I don’t see how City can complain when Jesus brings the ball under control with his arm. An example of VAR being implemented to get to the correct decision.

Totally agree with you. At first I was just happy to watch football but with no fans in the ground it has just got boring. I don't think I will be watching any more games until spectators are allowed in.

Agree with that. The give away is the spin on the ball. It was spinning very fast from left to right, contacted is arm and thigh and it spun from top to bottom. Without the arm it would have bounced off of him to his right hand side. That’s what VAR is for and worked perfectly.

Jose back to his managerial best.

Spurs look solid at the back and capable of delivering the knock blows to win games.

Will be interesting to see what silverware he brings to Spurs, as he has done at every other club he's managed.

Mike Dean is having a terrific game!.....Best Ref in England?
Having none of the usual City cheating tactics.....Refreshing.

I reckon a good attacking side playing the counter attack always has a chance against City,
Dodgy defence and a keeper who can't keep in his own area never mind stay on his line !

That second goal was really poor goalkeeping. No way was LoCelso scoring if he stayed on his line. He’d had a warning just a few mins earlier when he charged out of the box and Son went around him only to run the ball too far wide.

You can see why Southgate picks Dier all the times. He's looked immense tonight and is a class above players like Tarks and Mee

That's why he's been hired, Poch had Spurs playing good stuff, but they lacked the winning mentality, Jose brings that in spades.

Could we see another new PL winner this season, if they keep their key players fit Spurs are well capable of mounting a strong challenge, City are struggling big time by their usually high standards, and their defence always looks vulnerable against pace.

Lots for Pep to ponder after that display. He might be wondering whether he took the right decision to pen a new deal.

They sat still whilst everyone around them caught them up and edged ahead.

They're probably missing Silva, a world class attacking player who was a joy to watch, but they need to replace him.

Going to be interesting to see how Pep gets on, this is a challenge he's not had before really, several different clubs capable of challenging his team, not like Spain or Germany.

No you're totally correct it's definitely lacking a spark, even the high profile games such as Spurs-City, and the Merseyside derby are missing the edge a full house would bring. The sooner clubs can get bums back on seats the better, and not just from the monetary perspective either.

5-18 fouls today against villa

Grealish was on the floor after 30 seconds just outside their box.

I'm glad the cheating shites lost today. Just hope they end up going back down to where they belong, preferably this season/

He’s also making Kane a beast of CF. He’s got that power of Drogba/Costa about him nowadays.

As for Pep at City. There’s a reason he doesn’t stay long at clubs. He’ll burn the players out physically and mentally. Football just want to be free and play. He demands for too much from his players. They’ll buy into for a while but eventually they’ll crack. You can say the same for Mourinho too. He’ll get Spurs going. In 3 years they’ll drop down a level.

It's not Jack Grealish's fault that people can't help fouling him. Maybe he goes down a little easy at times, but I wouldn't say he does this more than most players. He just gets kicked a lot, I don't know why the opposing team put challenges in on him because he's clever and talented enough to shield the ball and draw the foul.

I watched Grealish when he was playing for England and what happened was as the game went on, whenever he got the ball, the opposition realised that going in on him wasn't working. They stood off him and closed the angles down, but they learned that going in for a challenge just didn't work, as he'd release the ball to a teammate, take the player on, or get fouled.

Not sure he lost the ball once in 2 games. However - I think he knows when he's going to get fouled and takes that into consideration. He may come across as a very dislikeable person, but I don't think he's a cheat. He's just good enough to benefit from the opposition's faults.

Think Liverpool will come through and win.
They'd be favourites, but their injuries are mounting up, I'd still pick them to prevail , however it will be a helluva lot closer than last season that's for sure.

Probably not but who is then?
When Leicester won the league only Spurs could realistically catch them.

But still ended up finishing third!

Fernandes gives away pen, ref goes and looks and overturns.

WBA player has ball lashed at his torso, as he turns it strikes his arm - ref gives pen without question or review.

Better yet, when it’s saved ref orders a retake upon review as GK is off his line.

You could t write such comedy.

VAR really is starting to turn me off top flight football.

VAR will dominant MOTD once again tonight this is becoming tedious week after week.

The one correct call was Sam Johnstone being off his line, but the rest are dubious at best, and funnily enough they all went in United's favour, purely a coincidence I'm sure.

Didn’t see the incidents but the keeper was definitely off his line for the missed PK and the goal. No idea why they can’t stay on their line.
