Good way to start a Sunday. Makes the coffee taste even better.
One of my favourite players of the modern era. And he put some belters away.

Well that cheered me up, thanks for posting. What a good player he was for us.

Some cracking goals, he had a great ability to get across the defender at the front post and flick it in!

Totally agree and what a nice fella too, met him and his family shopping in York once and had lots of time to chat about the good times at the Turf.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 7:01 amGood way to start a Sunday. Makes the coffee taste even better.

One of my favourite ever clarets. Especially as when we signed him not many expected much of him.
But aside from his own vital goals and his ability from the spot, the partnerships he formed and got the best out of other strikers in an old fashioned front two was brilliant.
Ings and Gray in particular both thrived alongside big Sam.
As above. Top player and a great character.

Likewise. Met him a few times. And like all that team who I have met all really grounded, down to earth and likeable. Which is brilliant considering our success.durhamclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 10:33 amTotally agree and what a nice fella too, met him and his family shopping in York once and had lots of time to chat about the good times at the Turf.
From that team met all in various places Arfield, Vokes, Jones, Ings, Trippier, Boyd, Heaton, Duff, Mee, Gray, Jutkiewicz and all were brilliant and all had time to talk Burnley.
Only grumpy one was Hendrick after his wonder goal against Bournemouth. He was with Boyd who was brilliant though.

As a front two partnership I'm not sure we'll see better for us than Ings and Vokes.

You were fortunate enough not to meet Taffy!!! One of if not the best player I've ever seen at Burnley... and I've seen some good uns but he had a head the size of Birkenhead......cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 11:25 amLikewise. I knew Taffy well and got on really well with him but I have to concur with your view on his head size. It didn’t help him though. If you look at his career he’d probably peaked by the time he left us first time and he was only 22. No way should a player of his ability been back with us in the second division in under three years.

only met him once, our school somehow managed to get him to ref a cup semi-final we were playing - he was absolutely brilliant with everyone during the game. It went to pens, he was even giving advice to those that were taking them about making your mind up etc. I was impressed with him that dayClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 1:20 pmI knew Taffy well and got on really well with him but I have to concur with your view on his head size. Regardless. Not seen a more exciting team.
Still think had ings stayed fit they’d have thrived together at this level too. Both have done well at this level.

I always found him brilliant but I know he was far from popular in the dressing room. I’ve not seen him for a while. It was before a Burnley v Swansea game around four years ago.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 8:28 pmonly met him once, our school somehow managed to get him to ref a cup semi-final we were playing - he was absolutely brilliant with everyone during the game. I thought he was also excellent in our box defending corners and free kicks, he was a third centre-half when we were under the cosh.

One of my favourites of recent years. Great to see them again, and all with Phil Birds excellent commentary.
Re: EVERY GOAL | SAM VOKES | There's only one Sam Vokes!
Danny Ings has gone on on to be far more than a championship player.
Regardless, I doubt we will see a better partnership. Hope I'm wrong!

Re: EVERY GOAL | SAM VOKES | There's only one Sam Vokes!
Of course he has but I was commenting on the partnership they had at Burnley which was just about all in the Championship. They didn't play too often together in the Premier League but it didn't produce a goal when they did. I would have hoped we have had better partnerships since based on the fact that they have done it in the Premier League. It's not relevant what Ings has gone on to do, it was about his partnership with Vokes.

I never saw Vokes as being particularly dominant in the air considering how big he was but you can't deny there were some great headers in that video.

In recent decades, SV and Gareth Taylor stand out with the head for me.
Before that, Lochhead and Fletcher.

I think in the final analysis, Vokes just came up a little short in the Premier League. Not quick enough.
Wood has been an upgrade in each dimension I think - pace, heading, touch and finishing. Did like Vokes though.

All four were good in the air but I put Fletch at the top of that list. How on earth he won the headers he did when he was around 5ft 9ins I'll never know.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 4:38 pmIn recent decades, SV and Gareth Taylor stand out with the head for me.

Vokes was good. But Wood is far superior in every way. That’s no disrespect to Vokes, I liked him. Apart from those headers he missed against Olympiakos. Must have been at least 3 sitters.

I definitely agree that Wood is a better all round player than Vokes, the only person on here who would disagree is Muchachoo, or whatever he calls himself now,. He has never rated Chris Wood and was against us buying him.

My girlfriend's son's favourite player...
I did this jigsaw for his 8th birthday a couple of years ago.
