All right, Counters: there were 104 beans and 196ml of jooose in the Tin.

This means that Burnleylad is today's winner, and is awarded 5 precious Counting-points. Well done to you, lad! :D
Congratulations to Burnleylad, he certainly knows his beans.

Closest other joose-estimates were Zlatan's 167 and Claretdavid's 157.

Sorry, everyone, but an anonymous phone call has alerted me to an error.

Hunters' joose-estimate in fact was 107, and I mistakenly saved it as 197.

Thus Zlatan's 167 is in fact the winning entry, and the three points are his!

Again, my sincere apologies to all involved.

I have replayed the Pope save a dozen times and I swear that Benteke slipped on a mystical butter bean enabling the save. The butter bean then vanished into thin air. Spooky.

This is what we have been missing all along.
Our good runs have coincided with a round of either TFC or Ralph & Spots “Spot the Ball”

We cannot let these drop again and either must continue

I saw your post, Asheville, and have not ignored it, but the history of Tinned Food Counting is quite a subject and can hardly be fully outlined in a mere half-hour. If your interest is keen, then I would advise you firstly to obtain a copy of How To Influence Football Match Results By Counting Food Units In Tins, by the esteemed Counting aficionado Arthur Lemongrass and published in 1789 by Gooseberry&Greengage of Maidstone in Kent.

I hope this helps. 8-)

Admiral, my edition was published in 1889, a full year after the football league was formed and seven years after Burnley FC were formed. A quick "Google" of Arthur Lemongrass reveals that he was born, out of wedlock, and in Samlesbury in 1842 ;)

I was referring, Ralph, to the great-great grandfather (1756-1812), who introduced Counting to the the amateur game long before any league was formed.

And yes, Cloughy. A good question. 8-)

The traditional end-of-season prize, or Fabled Knitted Garment, was awarded to the champion Counter heading a league table at the end of each campaign. Unfortunately - though someone else might recall - I cannot remember who in fact won it when last we Counted, some three years ago. The Garment remains with him, or her, as far as I know.

If we can retrieve it, then fine, or otherwise we will need a fresh one. If, that is, we are serious about Counting for the rest of this season.

Oh, and moreover, Ralph, I did attempt repeatedly to include such a photo in the Result post yesterday, but without success.

I at last realised that the mystical powers were blocking its publication because the empty Tin, dish of Drained beans and jug of jooose sat upon a blue and white checked tablecloth.

Though it did suffice for a 1-0 win, yesterday's Count was not quite perfect.

Oh, and moreover, Ralph, I did attempt repeatedly to include such a photo in the Result post yesterday, but without success.

I at last realised that the mystic powers were blocking its publication because the empty Tin, dish of Drained beans and jug of jooose sat upon a blue and white checked tablecloth.

Though it did suffice for a 1-0 win, yesterday's Count was not quite perfect.

Is this the 1st time this season you have done this count ?

If the answer is yes, then it is only fair you shoulder the responsibility for our poor start to the season

The team managed quite well without a Count for the last three seasons: there was no obvious crisis comparable to that occurring prior to yesterday.

But, as they say, cometh the crisis, cometh the Count.

Besides, we all share any responsibility. I claim no leadership: nor have I ever done so.

I would, quite happily, take on responsibility for the league table if the count is to continue.
I like messing about on excel.

Apologies Redbeard, I wasn't paying attention and totally missed seeing the return of the ancient ritual. Looking forward to next week's.

Huw, that might be a good idea.

At the very least it would ease the burden on respective Count Officiators.

I would refer you back to that guide to the points system posted earlier on this thread.
