A high tempo and aggressive performance...

Post by Mala591 » Sun Nov 22, 2020 11:59 am

We must increase tempo, increase aggression (legally) and improve movement off the ball.

Forward ‘defence splitting’ passes inside the full back, variety of tactics for corners, take on the opponent with confidence (used to be called dribbling), intelligent one-two passing moves, get to the by-line and pull the ball back, more composure in the final third etc etc

Play with confidence and self belief and play as if you’re proud to be a Burnley player.

Just go out there and enjoy playing ‘the beautiful game’!

I agree! However you’re asking the work of Bugattis and Ferraris. We’re JCBs.

We will sit off players employ 9 men behind the ball then win it back via a deflected shot and hoof it up the park somewhere near our lumbering forward defender.

Rinse and repeat and hope they tire them selves out and we steal a goal somehow from our 1 shot we may get.

If we start with Jayrod, we'll be a much more difficult and attacking proposition.

I was watching one of our PL games, from a few years ago, on SKY, a few weeks ago. The difference in our closing down and harrying, then to now, was startling.

We haven't got the pace to play that way unfortunately.

We will know the tactic when the teams announced

Barnes up top means hit him and go from there.

If he falls over we'll lose possession
If he concedes a free kick, we lose possession
If he wins a free kick, it starts our attacking passage
( aslong as the set plays aren't as awful as the last few weeks )

We showed last season we can shut out palace and out football them if we want too.
If we set up like we have of late we will most probably get picked off, or leaves ourselves susceptible to a wonder goal, set play, misfortune we cant recover from.

Our movement off the ball has generally been pretty good. It's what we don't do when we have it that's the problem. We need players to make more space.

Watching us in the games this season we press quite hard, win it back and then panic and lose the ball again.

Any other thoughts/comments about formation/tactics/lineup for tonight’s game?

Fwiw I’d select Bardsley before Lowton as his ‘no nonsense’ attitude does seem to inspire his team-mates to perform at a higher intensity level.

What a joyful and uplifting thread this is. A real delight to read. It’s been great watching our JCB smash up Bugatti’s and Ferraris for the last few years.

Anyway, I digress, JBG, Taylor, Brady all likely to be missing as is Stephens. Team probably just about picks itself, either Jay wide right or into a 4-3-3, with McNeil slightly more advanced than 2 sitting in Brownhill and Westwood. Porters at left back of fit, choice at right back.

Thats because when we smashed the Bugatti's and Ferrari's we were playing like a JCB Turbo GTi 😉

Have we signed a left back on loan then 🙄 who's Porters

Porters is probably an autocorrected misspelt version of Pieters.... obvs.

We were told on Friday that JBG and Brady weren't injured, merely being assessed on return from international duty. Taylor was likely to be fit leaving only Stephens to miss out.
