Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
He was my MOM tonight. It’s not just his contribution, it’s the aggression and leadership he shows that really sets the tempo and helps others to raise their game.

No coincidence, leader, inspiring and a bloody good player as well.
Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
Last 9 games Tarky and Mee have been a partnership, we have kept 7 clean sheets, make of that what you will.

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
It’s an incredible stat. And you could see that the players on the pitch backed themselves to keep the clean sheet and decided to stick shortly after the hour mark tonight. Mee, Tarks and Pope were all fantastic tonight.
Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
Heart in mouth when Popey went down in injury time .... thought it was his shoulder again the way he landed .
Great result ...the season starts here

Proof if needed that a good central defensive will help teams win games, it isn't always about what the strikers do.

They were fantastic for sure Rileybobs, but let’s not make a mistake here and suggest that with half an hour left, setting up to take what we have got at that stage is a tactic we can use to our advantage. Just about worked tonite, but It will see us in serious trouble against better sides than palace.
We needed that for sure, and there’s absolutely no doubt whatsoever who our captain, leader and talisman is. Ben Mee is the glue that holds us together. What a player!

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
Of course it is a tactic we can use to our advantage. I’d rather us have the ability to score a few more goals and put the game to bed but that’s not going to happen often, certainly not in the position we find ourselves in. Our players trusted in their ability to keep their concentration and see the game out tonight, which they often do when we take the lead.bobinho wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 8:16 pmThey were fantastic for sure Rileybobs, but let’s not make a mistake here and suggest that with half an hour left, setting up to take what we have got at that stage is a tactic we can use to our advantage. JBG should have put the game to bed early in the second half but with time running down we backed ourselves to keep the clean sheet. We’re going to need a number of similar performances before the season is out.

Ben Mee is, genuinely, a Claret legend and please can we remember this the next time he has one of his rare off days and critics on here emerge to tell us he's not a good footballer. It's a massive shame that Tarks has evidently decided he needs to move on to progress his ambitions as they are a magnificent partnership and have been absolutely key to our success in recent years.

I still hope there’ll be a twist in the Tarks situation if a takeover occurs.

Another thing to note with Mee back.
It also means that Tarkowski is back on his favoured right side. With Mee out it was crazy that we also shifted Tarks off his preferred side.

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
Due a testimonial next summer, let's hope he can get one he certainly deserves it, did he really only cost 400k?, that's an amazing signing if true.
Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
I don't think it's mainly about money for Tarks. He simply wants to progress his career, which realistically means he has to move on.

Him and Trippier for less than a million I think.
Sure we lost Trippier for less than his real value. But both were incredible signings even if we get next to nothing transfer wise for them.

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
They both played a huge role in our 13/14 promotion, and that arguably earned us £100m+, so I'd say both more than earned their stripes, and definitely they were value for money given the nominal fees we forked out for the pair of them.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:13 pmHim and Trippier for less than a million I think.

Agree he’ll move on, just think he might sign a new contract if offered a decent one by the new owners (sure there’s plenty of ways to incentivise that), hopefully staying an extra season to what would’ve been his last here if he saw his existing one out.

I think any team or partnership within a team, would take them statistics in this league over that period of games.

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
I bet there's a few good stats that show the difference Ben Mee makes. He never really looks comfortable on the ball, definitely isn't one of those 'modern defenders' at all but he's the man if you want to let fewer goals in.
I remember ages ago, when he was looking awkward at left back, much to the annoyance of many a fan.. even then it was the case that if he was in the team - albeit in the wrong position - we still conceded less goals. For all the systems, tactics and 'presses' of the game today, you still can't beat someone who'll throw his head at everything and would tackle a rhino.

A fabulous player. The best defender I've seen in nearly 60 years. His partner, Tarks is the second best. Great Times indeed.

Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
No but it is nonsense to suggest not picking him to play for us, to suggest he isn't committed while he is here, to suggest he won't try while he is here.
If you asked all of our squad would you leave Burnley for a bigger club on more money with more chance of winning something - how many do you think would say no ?
Re: Ben Mee = 4 points
None would say no but none would come out saying the club are too small for them.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:43 amNo but it is nonsense to suggest not picking him to play for us, to suggest he isn't committed while he is here, to suggest he won't try while he is here.

Defence is sound midfield is the problem. We are desperate for a fit and inform Jack Cork. Westwood and Browhall look lost in midfield playing together
