Eze

Post by Papabendi » Tue Nov 24, 2020 9:38 am

Believe he was a target for us and for a lad playing only his 3rd or 4th full game at this level, he looks a talent. Not everything he did came off, but he was a handful and Lowton couldn't cope.

He may have been a target, but they paid about £20m for him, so it's not like he was a bargain basement signing.

He was certainly their best player and gave Lowts the run around, thankfully their strikers couldn't hit a barn door, and when they did get an effort on target Pope was equal to it.

he was skinned on numerous occasions and ended up with a yellow card. Eze will be sore today based on some of the general treatment he received on the field.

If that was Lowton coping well with a player then I'd hate to see what not being able to cope with a player looks like.

Eze are good
Eze are good

Laaarvley.

Had a good game and was kicked a lot by Lowts. Other than one great chance he made in first half where he played it across our 6 yard box we managed to keep him far enough away from our goal for most of the match.

He had Lowton on toast last night. Just thankful that his final ball was not hurting us.

Played out wide, usually an attacking CM, can see why he had such an impressive season in the championship, 16 goals and 8 assists from 42 games I think.

Will certainly develop, and be more of a threat when centrally.
He would never have been on this summers shopping list, but his talent was noticable 18 months ago when we should have been looking at him.

The likes of him and Brookes need to be captured by us when the fee is nearer 10m, rather than 12 months later after a fantastic season and usually their price tag has doubled.

There is something in that, but remember Dyche is looking for players to go straight into the first team, and at that point in their development they may not be ready.

It is interesting how opinions differ so much.

Some saying Gudmundson was poor, others thinking he was good
Brady can do no wrong for some and no right for others
Lowton played well or Lowton a shadow of the player 2 years ago

I sometimes wonder what game others were watching but it would be boring if we all agreed

I'm not sure there is much to say about Brady after last night. It might be paying up contract time.

Tbf he did more than the 3 wingers we used put together. Though to be honest I did as much as Brady did last night - and I didn’t injure myself...though did feel a slight tightening of my calf stretching for a Kit Kat chunky

Why does the team after a victory never get a collective well done, and some on here cant bear to just say "well done" they always have to tag on to someone with criticism.

If you look at ratings, Lowton gets 5 from a lot of people on this board. It was a good win, but it cannot varnish over certain truths and one is that it is now common knowledge that Lowton is a weak link. Howe alluded to it in the commentary last night, and he is probably a good judge.

10m? Our outlay this summer was a tenth of that. Compare and contrast the performance of Eze with that of our wide left player, McNeil. One was a constant threat, was fouled repeatedly and saw the fullback marking him booked in his attempts to stop him. One was fairly anonymous and wandered inside too often for me, however he did create the best opportunity Crystal Palace had in 90 minutes to score......

18 months ago I think 10m would have been the fee they would have been tempted with, they also had Wells on loan, so I'm sure a deal could have been struck, as I'm sure QPR were quite skint.
Eze is a central player, and pushed out wide last night and was still possibly Palace main threat and best player.

Hindsight is a fine thing but like Bookes before him, we need to be capturing these players when their fees are in our range, as 1 good season in the champions sees their value double, 1 good season in the prem index its trebled at very least.

The money was there, as we tried to break our transfer record with a record bid for Phillips remember ( thought to be 20m ), also we went upto 12m for Adams apparently, so the funds were there and I'd not say either were first team ready for the premier league.

Yet it was McNeil not Eze who created Palace's best chance as you say so could argue he was more effective :D

I think you can count on 1 hand the amount of times we have signed a first team ready player under Dyche.

I'd much rather we invested, spent, gambled if that's your stance , on 2 or 3 10m young players from the championship where 1 ok season you can double your money, 1 good season it trebled if not more. That has to be the aim..

If we were genuinely hoping to get Adam's and Phollips thank goodness we didnt, as the combined 30m fees would have seen us gone bust now if the 40m rainy day fund has gone and we are in financial trouble...

Saw him in April/May 2019 at an otherwise rubbish game at Hillsborough. He really stood out. I posted this at the time:

"QPR did have one decent player who ended up missing a pen, called Eze. Never heard of him, only 20, fairly quick talented winger, beat people for fun all afternoon. Not sure he'd work for us but looks a good prospect, maybe for Palace who always seem to have loads of that type of player."

Possibly the only time I've been right about a player.

You make it sound so easy.

Firstly, no other club signed Eze for £10m so any criticism should be levied against all prem clubs not just Burnley.

Second, we don't know the endplay. That could be Eze's highlight of the season

Third, when you haven't got £20/£30m how do you sign players at £10m each<

Fourth, if you did sign three £10m hopefuls and they turn out to be no good, what is the next move

I don't know the answers. I doubt anyone does

so it is not so easy

A similar post from me having see him at QPR that season, and putting him on my transfer wish list.

"Eze QPR

Young, big, strong, box to box, scores and creates.

Ticks all the boxes and with only 18 months left on his contract.
With Warburton SD mate, and them having Wells off us, it could put us in poll position.

1 thing I think we all agree we need is to bring the age of the squad down, and we need a midfielder or 2"

It's not easy no, however I'll answer your points.

1. Your right no one signed him for 10m, no one gambled until he had a fantastic season and his price doubled.

2. At that age I very much doubt that was his best game he will play for Palace, also he is still young so will mo doubt get better.

3. We did have 20/30m at the time as if MG is to be believed we bid 20m for Phillips of Leeds, and 12m for Adams from Birmingham, so unless Mike was telling fibs the cash was there 18/24 months ago..

4. Less chance of losing out long term on youngsters than older players with the added bonus of potentially making 2, 3, 4 times your initial outlay.
Much prefer the younger gambles to the old folk/injured players we seem to target.

Just my opinion.

Or you could compare using actual statistics, instead. One of them had two shots and created three chances, including one big chance. The other had zero shots and created just one small chance.

He certainly gave Lowts the run around.

He was pacy, direct, but like so many (Adama Traore being another example), lacking the composure when it mattered.

Will get better and come good though, so a great signing for them. Wish we had someone of his pace/strength on our right side!!

Not sure, I was answering a post from earlier saying , Dyche wants first team ready players so doesnt want to sign the likes of Brooks and Eze to develop 🤷🏻‍♂️

If thsts the case we will be waiting a while for our next first team ready player for this league, especially with MG around, we just dont have the funds

he was skinned on numerous occasions and ended up with a yellow card. Eze will be sore today based on some of the general treatment he received on the field.
I think the definition of being kicked all over the filed has changed a lot since the sixties and seventies. If Eze is sore today because of the "treatment" he got, then why doesn't he take up something softer like rugby? I'm sure rugby is a much easier game than football because they are regularly jumped on by two or three fifteen stone blokes and they don't scream in pain like footballers do. Obviously being touched by a footballer is a lot more painful than been squashed by a rugby player.

Thought he looked decent, if a little raw - ran rings round Lowton.

Hope to god we’re after a new RB in the coming windows.

Right Back is the last position we need to strengthen imo
The 2 we have are certainly good enough.
Lowton imo had a good game last night against their best player but how many did Eze score and how many good crosses did he get in ?

Bardsley will be 36 at the end of the season and Lowton hasn't looked up to it for the last 18 months. I don't mind keeping one of them as cover but if we're looking to progress we desperately need a new right back.

I would imagine that Eze has been getting advice from his agent since he was a young player. We might have been able to come up with the fee of 10m, but it is likely that the agent would have advised the player to hold on and wait for a better offer from a wealthier club. As it turned out, I'm sure he feels that he is better off at Palace than he would have been at Burnley.

He's certainly got ability Eze and bought to move into Zaha's shoes once he moves.

Lowton had a few issues with him first half but kept him at bay in the second, he was not repeatedly roasted.

Think there was a disingenuous reason for the OP to focus on Eze in order to reprise his recent thread on how he believes McNeil is going backwards.

For all the tea in china there's no way we would have stumped up that kind of cash to find out where he'd be the happiest, london or no london he wasn't coming here.

Poor game from Eze by his recent standards - so maybe Lowton isn’t as bad as some think

Nope. But on that particular subject - I'm not the only one asking the question.
