Have we got a psychological advantage if we score first?
Have we got a psychological advantage if we score first?
It seems that opposing supporters and managers say the same thing in that we are so difficult to break down, especially after taking the lead, and I wondered if many teams have an air of resignation once we go in front.
Obviously it won't always be the case as there are so many quality players that can score in an instant but for the most part we seem so good at seeing out games.

Once we go into “1-0 mode” you’ve got no chance of breaking us down

It works the other way round as well, we find it very difficult once we go behind.
I should think the same is true for every club outside the top 8.

If that’s the case imagine how much of a blow it would be to the opposition if we actually scored a second, or even a third

Our record in the Premier League with a half time lead at Turf Moor is outstanding - I always feel better when it happens
by contrast Manchester City away from home and losing at half time may be worse than ours
What happened in Man City's last 103 Premier League games AWAY when they were losing at half-time (dating back to April 1995):
Won 1
Drawn 12
Lost 90

The first goal is decisive in a great percentage of football matches.

There was some stat from Sky in the Monday game, something like in the last 20 games we've taken the lead only Leicester have overturned it?

Re: Have we got a psychological advantage if we score first?
I'm sure there's a psychological advantage, though I suspect that the real/measurable 1 goal advantage is of far more benefit/use to us.
