Just a note to say Happy Thanksgiving to all our American supporters who might venture here, regardless of where you are in the world.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow for one :)

Spent time working in small town New York state and loved the decorations that went up on the clapboard houses that stayed there till Christmas.
In recognition and thinking about my Mecca soulmates I'd attach Apple, peaches, pumpkin pie by Jay and the Techniques if I could.

Nothing open here apart from essential businesses which are at 20% capacity. Grocery stores have 2 hr lines and one of our Walmart’s was shut by the health department because the employees kept testing positive. Everything is suppposed to be back on Monday depending on what the governor thinks.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is Thanksgiving and what is it's purpose?

I’m not at all sure. You could google it and probably find an explanation. They have something else called Labour Day and I don’t know what that’s about either.

Alice Cooper recommends spiced pumpkin coffee creamer, apparently he's addicted.

Can you send us some?

Could you also find out for me what a "2 hour line" is.

Will we have to get used to all these Americanisms if the ALK takeover goes through? 😜

I was enjoying it in Vegas with the Americans this time last year. Seeing them all roll into the hotels that morning and the atmosphere down the casinos that night was brilliant. What a bloody difference a year makes!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all US Clarets from here in NW Philly - the quietest T/Giving since I've been in this country, with 5 adults and 1 child in the house for dinner later and a creative layout involving 3 tables to ensure everyone is happy with social distancing.... Of course, as every year at this time I always get asked numerous times "does England have a Thanksgiving holiday" :D
Feeling much more positive about the Clarets after notching that first win, and possibly the ALK bid taking the lead in the buy-out stakes. Hope we can keep in a position where we can attract some incomings in Jan is the money is there. Cheers all.

and what is your answer, Cajun?

I worked for a number of American companies over the years. I was often asked what England thought about Independence Day. My reply was that I was always happy to celebrate it with them - in the same way a parent celebrates their child growing to become an adult.

Typically our Christmas Tree would go up tomorrow, however with this awful year it went up early this week, will be the first time since we have been here to have the tree up but I quite like it, so might keep this tradition.

Thanksgiving also marks the start of the "holidays" or "holiday season", which also throws many Brits, Black Friday tomorrow and of course now adopted by the UK so welcome to the "Holidays" also lol :)

Still a large amount of people traveling regardless of the virus, some people believe another spike will be seen in a few weeks, but it is considered a bigger holiday than Christmas by many here.

Lot's of parades traditionally but as pointed out, expect that side of things to be quiet but everyone I know is having the traditional dinner, maybe we can give thanks to our care workers and the vaccine this year

My reply to the question does England have a Thanksgiving Day was always... July 4th.

My reply to all Americans when they want to discuss holidays, is that they would not really have any of these holidays if not for the English, they get confused:

I refer them to Thanksgiving and July 4 as examples, plus advise them they would be speaking French and celebrating Bastille Day but for the English, the 4th July always throws them until you remind them we were there and without us there would be nothing to celebrate :)

Mrs C is American, so all the years we lived in England we would have a Thanksgiving dinner and have some friends round. The kids always liked that we would save some fireworks from Bonfire Night to use on July 4 :) Oh yes, then there is also the annual explaining here of what Bonfire Night represents. I have to keep up with my history info. :D

I believe a line= queue

Thanksgiving epitomizes everything about America.
We celebrate the meal the native americans had with the early pilgrims by gorging ourselves on obscene amounts of food, slowly digesting the meal for the next 9 hours while we watch (american) football, and resting for the black friday sales where people have been literally trampled to death while trying to get a TV for 100 bucks.

Detroit lions seem to have started resting a bit too early. Hopefully the cowboys do the same later.

I had a great Thanksgiving when visiting a mate from uni who was studying in California. I don't think they had met British students before but they were very polite as we emptied the fridge of beer and then drank red wine by the pint. I know now we were behaving like arseholes
