Bright Osayi-Samuel

Post by NewClaret » Thu Nov 26, 2020 12:07 am

Article on Lancs Live today (due to the historical links, nothing new) because he got a goal & assist against Rotherham.

https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/t ... e-19341355

Only Rotherham, I know, but looks decent though:

I think we need two wide players on the basis Brady is shot and isn’t really a modern day wide player anyway. So we need cover for Dwight and a right sided winger. Have seen BOS play both sides. Surely given he’d only be a couple of million (ooc in Summmer), he’d be worth a go?

That price presumes we'd be the only bidders, highly unlikely.

He's exactly the type we should be targeting, young he's still only 22, and he'd be relatively cheap due to being in the final 6 months of his contract, and if he does well we could easily make a tenfold profit on him in a year or two, also wages shouldn't be an issue, I can't imagine he's on megabucks at QPR, and the lure of the PL should prove a big draw, my worry is I can see one of the other London clubs making a move for him in January, Fulham or West Ham come to mind, and both of those will blow us out of the water regarding salary, and that would also mean he wouldn't have to relocate, sadly I think we've missed the boat with this one, why we weren't interested in the summer I'll never know, instead we signed up Brady for another 12 months, and already he's missed a lot of the season, and the one major transfer we did undertake was Dale Stephens, who's no doubt on a decent wedge, and as yet doesn't look up to the task.

Dale has hardly been given a chance yet so it's a wait and see.
We had chances to swop Bright for Naaki but preferred to avoid that deal

Agreed mate. Ships probably sailed. :(

Hadn’t thought of the Fulham angle. Although to be fair he may worry his time in the PL would be short-lived (may also be the same for us, depending where we are at Christmas). Not sure he’d get as much game time at West Ham than here. Celtic heavily-linked but you’d assume he prefers the PL.

Only question I have is whether he’d track back & do the dirty work but not sure that matters in a sub role where he’d be coming on to make something happen?

We will be setting our sights a lot higher than him come January, Sterling or Ziyech will be targeted :D

Fair point. Celtic heavily linked. You’d assume any bidders would limit their offers to below the £4.7m accepted in the summer.

Or just preferred Brownhill at that time, given Hendrick was obviously off in summer?

Wells swap for Eze would’ve been nice

Excellent run and cross for QPR’s goal v the mighty Brentford tonight! QPR have actually played some nice stuff.

Just watched that. Great run, from deep in his own half. Quick & direct, just what we need.

That Toney is looking a player too. 12 in 14 now.

You can expect Toney to be sold next summer for 20 million +

Toney looked ok v us in the FA cup
Clearly there is something in the Brentford recruitment model as they appear to be able to spot lower league talent and add value to the players and turn a handsome profit
Tarks Gray Benrahma Watkins and Toney all point to an excellent recruitment policy that puts ours to shame.Hopefully ,this will be rectified after the takeover .I work next door to the new ground and it looks impressive
But ,some would argue building a new ground then selling it to raise capital then leasing it back is a strange way to go. That is given that Griffin Park made a good profit and the 150+ flats build adjacent to Kew station on land owned by Brentford FC will bring in more money. It could all implode badly or they may end up in the Premier league, a fate that looked nailed on for a long time last season.

Read an article some time ago about the so called Brentford "model"

Sounds fairly simple really

They take note across all leagues in Europe and maybe beyond (and certainly not just the top league of each country)

They then identify any clubs that are performing very well at that time (better than recent history of said club)

They then try to identify any particular player who is performing consistently well for such teams, and those players become the focus of their attention
