That seems a much better list than the one that we had in the summer. If they were all to leave we'd only need to replace one of our starting eleven.Matt Lowton, Jack Cork, Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson, Robbie Brady, Phil Bardsley and Kevin Long remain as the established first team squad players whose contracts are due to end next summer.

Re: Out of contract players
I think ive misread this.
Do you mean we only lost one regular first teamer last year?
Do you mean we only lost one regular first teamer last year?
Re: Out of contract players
If the club is not sold, you have to wonder just how many will be replaced. The manager, whoever it may be might have to use our ever increasingly populated U23 squad
Re: Out of contract players
All of Lowton, Gudmundsson, Bardsley, Brady and Long have started games this year. Having all these players leave at the same time means we'll have to sign 6-7 players in the next window. That's because I think we are short now and one or two not good enough.
We should have already acted on it and had solid replacements bedding in or targeted.
While I'm happy for most of them to go it looks like it leaves a big hole in terms of numbers. I'm not confident we are up to that rebuilding job in a single window.

Out of that list, I'd be wanting to keep Cork and JBG

Unless we look like not being taken over or appearing skint I would only renew Jack's contract, and JBG depending on how many minutes he had played up to the mid -season point

I hope Jack Cork is next on the list to sign up.

Re: Out of contract players
Surely if MG can't sell after trying for 2 years he will have no choice but to return to how we have done things previously.
He has clearly been avoiding forking out any significant money on incoming transfers with the aim of maximising his income from selling the Club. If he can't do that he has to make sure that we stay up. Either way we just have to get a right winger starter in this January, or we are likely to regret it massively.

Re: Out of contract players
I'd add Long to that list. Cheap 4th choice cb is fine. Right back is a big area for improvement, as is right side of midfield.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:59 amOut of that list, I'd be wanting to keep Cork and JBG
Re: Out of contract players
Steve, in the summer the list of players out of contract was even longer. If we'd lost Vyds, Jay and Ben Mee on top of those we'd have been in need of a serious rebuild.
Matt, I agree about Cork but I would question whether we are really getting value for money having JBG (and Brady) in the squad, even though they are both potentially great players when they are match fit.
Long has given us 10 years of loyal service but I can't see him getting in the first team even if Tarky leaves, is he worth another contract or do we give Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas or another u23 player the chance to play that role.
Last season they left the Bardsley deal right to the last minute, I wonder if that'll change this time round.

Ideally we will retain Cork and Long as cover players and release the rest, I do like Bardsley though so maybe retain him too.

Re: Out of contract players
Ideal opportunity to freshen things this, if we’re still in the Prem and the takeover has gone through.
I’d let them all go bar Jack Cork and Matt Lowton (to become backup to whoever our new first choice right back would be). I’d let Long go as I see more potential in Bobby Thomas/Jimmy Dunne to fulfill the fourth and fifth choices in that position.
Sadly we cannot rely on JBG/Brady and I think that entire right hand side is where we need to really invest in January.

Re: Out of contract players
I'd be offering contract extensions to most of that list.
Cork, 1 of Bardsley or Lowton as back-up to a new RB, JBG (back-up to a new RM) and Long - absolute no brainer to get him on a new deal if he'll sign it. How many other players would happily play 3rd / 4th choice for so long?
In reality it's unrealistic we would replace all of these players if we were to let them all go at once, in addition to the reinforcements we already need, plus with Tarkowski and possibly McNeil likely to leave in the summer too.

Re: Out of contract players
Vydra and jay we're never going to be out of contract, we had a years option on both.dibraidio wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 10:10 amSteve, in the summer the list of players out of contract was even longer. If we'd lost Vyds, Jay and Ben Mee on top of those we'd have been in need of a serious rebuild.

If the takeover collapses we'll need Kevin Long to step up and replace Tarky

Completely agree with this but Id definitely try and retain Lowton as back up ahead Bardsley just cos of age and when at his best I think Lowton will give the new RB more competitionCardiffClaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 11:29 amI'd be offering contract extensions to most of that list.

Not sure I’d be rushing to extend any of those contracts. Maybe 12 months for Cork
Re: Out of contract players
Whether the "proposed" takeover happens or not would you have confidence in our current recruitment team being able to replace so many players

Re: Out of contract players
The recruitment team don't sign players, they do a lot of work in the background but they don't actually sign anyone. There are any number of reasons why we have just had a bad window. The recruitment team I am sure is part of the problem but so are the manager, the chairman and the chief exec.

Re: Out of contract players
It genuinely wouldnt bother me if they all left
Re: Out of contract players
I certainly consider the manager and Chairman to be a major part of that team and let's face it CT, it's not just been a bad last window but for several now, which is why we are now in this unenvious position of having so many players ooc (and mainly "average" players at that)ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 5:37 pmThe recruitment team don't sign players, they do a lot of work in the background but they don't actually sign anyone. Re: Out of contract players
You say average but these players have been good enough to get top half finishes in the Premier League. I’d agree with you otherwise and it’s obvious that the fall out between Dyche & Garlick is the biggest reason for the lack of recruitment.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 7:03 pmI certainly consider the manager and Chairman to be a major part of that team and let's face it CT, it's not just been a bad last window but for several now, which is why we are now in this unenvious position of having so many players ooc (and mainly "average" players at that)
