Hillside end of debate, it would replace Latham st Anne’s on the open if it could manage the crowds. Widely acknowledged as an outstanding challenging golf course,
Sadly Royal Lytham is unlikely to host the British Open again due to the limited space it has for parking and corporate hospitality.

Played all of the 3 "Royals" in our region and to me Royal Lytham is comfortably the weakest of the 3..

Hardest I ever played was Carnoustie after the open many years ago with the rough still unbelievable, thick enough to almost break your wrists
None of the above are within 20 miles of Burnley....

If we’re talking golf courses anywhere in the UK then Dundonald Links and Royal St David’s would be right up there, for me.

Townley is the most challenging.
Badly kept, the great unwashed walking across the course and multiple chancers sneaking on without paying.

The R&A have come up with new plans for Royal Lytham and now have no intentions to drop it as an open venue which is great news.
