At 5-0 I think we have been lucky, which says it all.

Always likely to get some mismatches on FA Cup day although it is usually actually in the FA Cup you get them and not in the Premier League

Hopefully when the fixtures come out for next season it will already say “Manchester City 5 - 0 Burnley”, and we can have weekend free

It’s the hope that kills you! Par for the course today we’ve been due a battering to be fair.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 2:44 pmHoping we’re going to give it a go this time rather than the usual timid surrender.
Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
Hate City - Yes they are too bloody good for us but Jesus tackled Ben Mee on the shin with his studs ..... no card, Foden pulls Lowton back and complains that we get a free kick. The only good thing was that Benson looked to fit in well. We were never going to get anything out of today so onwards and hopefully upwards !

The mast 7 matches against City playing 442 ..... 30 1 the score line.
What way did we play today. Take a bow Mr Dyche.

I dare say that we would have been considerably tighter and defended better today had we had Stephens alongside Westwood and Benson rather than playing either McNeil or Barnes. (Not that that's saying a lot). At least Stephens usually puts a few heavy tackles in. We were lightweight and wide open today, as we always seem to be against City.

A lot of silly comments on here about Stephens. One of our competitors best players for last few seasons. How about giving him time to settle in to how we play! We don't exactly play very similarly to any other Premier League teams. It's called supporting your team!

Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
True this. Love Dyche, but he has not worked out a way to play against City at all. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing time and again and expecting a different outcome.
For me, 5-4-1 is the way to play. Extra CH in the middle to allow Tarks/Mee to better support the full backs, then two deep central defenders meaning there is no ‘gap’ in behind. Then hope for a set piece.
Could go 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 though. Just anything but 4–4-2 and taking a battering.
Tarks’ mistake a big factor in today’s game. Not decisive, of course, but did lead to such a result.

Must agree with this. Our players didn't look bothered, it was as if they knew they were playing the wrong system to have any chance of holding City.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:19 pmTrue this. Manner of the goals will always wind me up but in general I couldn’t care less. This showing at the Etihad is so par for the course now I don’t even think it’ll impact the momentum we built from the Palace game. JBG benched was an early indicator that Dyche feels the same.

Nothing I wasn't expecting or braced for, but no matter how pragmatic I try to be I simply can't not fume over Tarky's garbage pass gifting them their early lead and the Keytsone Cops defending for the second. I also think Tarks gave the ball away needlessly for their fourth (or fifth?) and when you're playing against a team like City they really don't need a helping hand!! Annoying to say the least.

Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
Poor team selection and tactics today. What bit of don't leave KDB free to run at you did SD not get. Taylor had no protection. Peiters should have started. Jay completely wasted stuck out wide. Should have played him as the single striker and packed midfield somehow.

Not saying anyone was any good but hard to say who was worst between Lowton and Taylor. Probably Taylor, he really did have a mare.
Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
We need some real powerhouses in midfield to assist the defenders. Couldn't imagine Barton and Marney giving their midfield as easy a time.

Did anyone expect anything different? The disappointing thing for me is we didn’t leave anything on them. Sometimes you need to give them a bit of the rough stuff -especially early on. It was all a bit easy.

People always make excuses about the money. Most teams give City more of a game than we ever do, we just don't appear to turn up.
So we just look at how much they cost and say there's no point trying?

Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
Disagree about City being unplayable today. I thought that was as poor as they've been against us for a while. They gave the ball away in their own half on a countless number of occasions but we didn't have the quick-thinking or creativity to capitalise on the mistakes. They took their goals really clinically, it seemed like every chance went in, but I didn't feel they were anywhere near as dominating as they have been in the past. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 4:59 pmCity today were unplayable at times.they would have destroyed most teams today.

Even though we never laid a glove on them, city were far slicker & the gulf in quality showed we got off lightly really & sterling never even featured from the bench, if I had to criticise we looked sluggish & seemed to run out of gas far too early or maybe city were super fit, people saying we should have parked the bus chances are we would have still gone down 1 nil 2 nil & then pelters for setting up negatively & why didn't he go for it.

Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
I kind of agree. Listening to Robbie Savage for example going on about City's amazing play and goals, I wanted him to say, but if Tarkowski had made that stupid pass after 4 minutes against any other team in the PL, the ball would still have ended up in the net. It was a gift. Same with the second goal and even the third goal was poor tracking back by a sleepy Jayrod. Plus Tarks actually played a rubbish pass which left us all over the place and led to either the 4th of 5th, cant remember which. City were't unplayable, we were simply appalling and they took full advantage.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 8:59 pmDisagree about City being unplayable today. Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
Thank you...nobody likes a smart .... by the way! I’ll stick with my view that all goals should be checked by VAR..hence, the 2nd should be disallowed for that reason. It was a throw to one player who scored when the throw had been taken nearly 10 yards further up the pitch than where the ball went out. You could see some of our defenders looking towards where the ball went out. Absolute nonsense of a goal and one that would have been chalked out against a big club, of that I have no doubtcorporal jones wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:02 pmvar has a limited set of criteria it can get involved with-i thought everyone knew that-and throw ins are not on the list.

Re: Match Day Thread - Man City v Burnley
Hibs has a point. Walker takes a fresh ball off the ball stand and throws it quickly from there, but that wasn't where the original ball went out and it wasn't picked up by the officials.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 9:36 pmThank you...nobody likes a smart .... by the way! Thx. Would have been fine for a couple of yards but I reckon it was nearer 10. Joke tbh.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 9:43 pmHibs has a point. Not sure it excuses 3 of our players switching off though, but Walker definitely should have been brought back.

I agree that a few switched off absolutely but if you get a chance look at Ben who definitely looks towards where the ball went out. It was taken so far further up it took a couple by surprise for that reason and it only takes that split second tbh.
