Good point - it did seem a drastic manoeuvre. However there was a suggestion with video coverage from Sky that he was reacting to debris flying off a car in front of him.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:07 pmNow we know he's OK, can we talk about what an idiot he is?
Why on earth would you make a move like that with the pack as it was on the third corner, diving across the track at 150mph...
Grosjean has had his share of luck, I suspect it's run out today. Needs to go home and look after his kids and live a long life.

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
I think once they’ve looked at the data for the car, questions will be asked. On sky they showed a piece of debris hitting his tyre just before be turned sharply right. Wether that had an impact on tyre pressure or anything else who knows at this point? It was certainly a strange move if it was just to position himself away from the car that left the track on the left hand side. It was well out of the way.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:07 pmNow we know he's OK, can we talk about what an idiot he is?

Only on uptheclarets could a argument ensue about the angle an F1 car hit the barrier in a life-threatening crash.

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
I know this might be an unpopular view, but I think it was a rear-on collision.

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
Actually its a bit of a funny one cos if you look at Sids video link on page 1 you'll see a couple of things
1 It is the front of the car that hits the barriers so in that respect its head on
2 After clipping the other car the momentum / gforce (whatever you call it) is sliding the car down the track sideways as it moves across towards the barrier so the impact is more of a car hitting the barrier at an angle as Zatlan and co have stated
The car is definitely not powering fwd straight into the wall so even though the still at impact looks that way the impact will react more like an angled collision

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
It's confused a little because the angle of momentum was at an angle to the barrier, but the angle of the car was 90 degrees to the barrier. That's why there's three tyre tracks. The front left and rear right tyre marks overlap each other.

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
Whatever the angle of impact or how much the Armco has absorbed, the team recorded 53G on impact. That's a hell of figure and he's very lucky not to have been unconscious which would certainly have had a different outcome.

Hard agree. Without the HANS device there's a good chance he'd have asphyxiated while unconscious.Sutton-Claret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 1:02 pmWhatever the angle of impact or how much the Armco has absorbed, the team recorded 53G on impact. Without the Hans I doubt suffocation would have been a concern.

If memory serves, the HANS Device was first used in NASCAR. If so, it's the only good to come out of the 'good ole boys' circus.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 7:11 pmHard agree. Without the HANS device there's a good chance he'd have asphyxiated while unconscious.

Re: Bahrain Grand Prix
It’d take some serious balls to jump back behind the wheel of an F1 car 2 weeks after that. I hope he makes the final race though. Would be a shame to end his career like that.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 9:25 pmReports suggesting Grosjean could be back for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2 weeks - don't do it mate
Would bring a whole new meaning to going out in a ball of flames though....
