Payton place in the 86 world cup?
I was watching the 86 world cup film earlier, tribute to Maragonna and had to do a double take. There he was defending a free kick along side Hoddle and Lineker.

I’d be more concerned about Hoddle. I think he is semi detached to the wall...

It does look like him! Is it Steve Hodge?

I sent the pic to Andy`s dad Dave, we were work colleagues for years, even he thought it`s a dead ringer for Andy.

Yeah Steve Hodge and he swapped shirts with Maradona after the QF.

The irony is Andy should probably have been nearer that team than Steve Hodge...lol
England arguably would have won the WC that year but for Diego....

How things change in football - theses days technology can spot a player a millimetre off side but in those days a ref and his assistant can't spot a fat little cheat punching the ball into the back of the net, when the action has got to be the focus of their attention...and don't get me started about Lampard's "goal" not given against Germany.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 7:15 pmThe irony is Andy should probably have been nearer that team than Steve Hodge...lol

....and people argue against VAR!!!! and which, incidentally, would show the nondescript in the picture was Steve Hodge and not the Padiham Predator.

The benefit of TV replays is great but in real time in 1986 it looked like he headed the ball past Shilton.

Trevor Steven played very well in that game.

Steve Hodge has announced he will be keeping the shirt, even though it is valued at over £1m.
Nice pension pot.
