Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
I'm sure that the answer will have something to do with money, at least in part, but I wondered why we played in black on Saturday? Equally why do we sometimes choose to wear an alternative when there is no obvious clash with claret? We are The Clarets after all! I'm sure that we could have worn all claret at City and there would not have been a clash. Wouldn't have changed the result mind!

Couldn't agree more with you although on Saturday we probably wouldn't have been allowed to wear the home kit because of the sky blue on the shirt. But the answer is that it is to do with money.

Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
Always thought that a yellow away kit would be the optimum choice. By my reckoning with the claret and blue home kit there would only be a clash with Bradford City of the 92 clubs (not sure on clubs in the National League).
Being of the ageing generation I do not like black football shirts full stop! They should be banned for football teams. Black shirts are for referees etc. I would however allow teams who traditionally have worn black and white stripes, Notts County, Newcastle, Grimsby etc permission, I wonder how we managed all those years to distinguish between players from these teams and a ref!!! Must have been highly confusing

Shirt sales and extra exposure.
It's very annoying accross football at the minute.
Once upon a time I would know who was playing by looking at the strips as soon as i put the TV on, now i have to look it up.

The blue sleeves of our home shirt would clash with Man City’s shirt, that is why we have wear our change shirt.
Last season we had to wear our third kit as our away was sky blue

When we played in the past in weather that we have today in Burnley it would make no difference what colours were worn. Both sides would soon be the colour of mud.

What we've worn this season - we could have worn the home kit in all but City
Leicester - home kit
Millwall - home kit
Newcastle - home kit
West Brom - yellow
Brighton - yellow
Man City - black

Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
For me all teams should wear their away strip for all away games and if it clashes with the other teams home colours you use a third strip. This chopping and changing between home and away strips that clubs can choose to do willy-nilly is not good for the game
Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
I am sure theres a clue in the name "Away strip" but for the life of me I cannot put my finger on itDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 2:33 pmFor me all teams should wear their away strip for all away games and if it clashes with the other teams home colours you use a third strip. Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
Much prefer seeing teams playing in their home kits, especially in derby matches. In all honestly though, I've stopped caring. The clubs, the leagues, tv companies, sponsors don't give a ****, so why should I?
Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
Is there not some consideration given to the contrast between the two kits nowadays for folk who are colour blind?

Our two away points won in yellow. Close the debate. Yellow it is.

It's all about marketing/sponsorship etc. I wonder how many of our black away kit we sold after losing 5-0 to Man City in it??!!

Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
Going back to Billy Hamilton’s time he once said they much preferred wearing yellow, especially under the lights as the kits stand out far more.
We should have... home, yellow and white occasional third kit (which could serve multi season even if we need new shirts every season)... then fans could get their monies worth.
But then again I think keepers should also have to wear green shirts and the same socks/shorts as the team they play for... they could just pad them for kit sales.
So I’m a marketing nightmare.

Both keepers should be different shirts nowadays, unless they don't have a different colour with them bizarrely.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 4:46 pmGoing back to Billy Hamilton’s time he once said they much preferred wearing yellow, especially under the lights as the kits stand out far more.

Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
Millwall are currently losing away to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park - obviously, both teams play in blue so Millwall are playing in their away kit...
Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
What gets me is, the kits aren't imprinted on the memory like they used to be. If I think back to games against Wolves, I imagine the old gold, Blackpool in tangerines, Newcastle in black and white stripes. Even some away kits became iconic, like the red and black stripes of Man.City and green and yellow of West Brom, the yellow and blue of Arsenal. Nowadays every team seems to wear the same generic hideously coloured kits that have no relevance to the traditions of the club. It really is quite sad and indicative of a future in which identity and individuality are becoming curious quirks of the past, just like the grounds/stadiums.

We could play in Claret and Blue in every game except Villa and WHU away
The extra kit should be yellow anything but green or black both horrendous choices

We wouldn’t be able to play at Man City in claret & blue due to both having sky blue sleevesWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 3:12 amWe could play in Claret and Blue in every game except Villa and WHU away

We used to play in claret nearly all the time but change into white when we played West Ham, for example and sometimes a red shirted team like Liverpool.

But now it is about VAR too. They have to be able to differentiate between the sleeves of the 2 teams given the computer works in fractions of a millimetre.

Re: Away from home - what determines the colour we wear?
A couple of weeks ago 2 PL teams played in
1 x Red
1 x Green
Pointless if you are colour blind.
When both "home" shirts would have been fine or at least one had been white.
How long before 5 or 6 shirts per season?
