Chris Wood
Should have been hooked for me, his passing was abysmal, next to no hold up play, missed a glorious opportunity with the 1 on 1 ; don’t get me wrong I think he’s our best finisher but when he’s not on it he’s really not on it. We had them in the channels on numerous occasions, could have benefited from Vydra and his bit of extra pace, Everton didn’t look all that great! Should have picked up 3 points today!

I think we could have caused them more problems today and at our best we’d have beat them, not overly critical of Wood. Pickford has a decent gameHedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 2:50 pmShould have been hooked for me, his passing was abysmal, next to no hold up play, missed a glorious opportunity with the 1 on 1 ; don’t get me wrong I think he’s our best finisher but when he’s not on it he’s really not on it. Re: Chris Wood
Massively frustrated with Wood today personally, the ball bounced off him way too often, I must admit that the thing that infuriated me the most was Westwood when he went to ground for their goal, Dyche must have been fuming about that.

Re: Chris Wood
He's out of form, but he still represents our biggest goal threat and on another day he would have scored a couple. Worth sticking with until he regains his form.

100%. He's not somebody you drop due to form as he'll go and score when you least expect it. As things stand it's always him + another partnering him.

Re: Chris Wood
He was decent first half but poor second. Maybe the miss affected him.
It was a good save and he normally scores from them but when a keeper is coming out that fast he should have gone around him.
Certainly not ready for a rest.

I think he'd have buried it on his right, on his weaker foot he just tried to hit it hard and low which is understandable. It was a good save.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 3:21 pmHe was decent first half but poor second. Maybe the miss affected him.

He was pretty poor in the second but he still had our best chance with his head, and was also close to turning a Barnes cross in but for a very good block.

As for wood. I like him. But he’s definitely a confidence player and never looked confident with the one on one that he should really score. Credit the keeper though.
Re: Chris Wood
Good first half.
Re: Chris Wood
Made more of a contribution than Jay (and that's not a criticism of JR)
Re: Chris Wood
A good striker never looks at the keeper and just sees the space of the goal.
It was an entirely rhetorical shot, like Ashley Barnes does and his '***k you' blasts over the bar.
Even anyone with the slightest understanding of scoring would have taken a touch to the left and into the bottom left corner.
For a professional footballer on £30,000 A WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!! For that?????????
Donate that week's wage to charity, I think.
Let's hope he doesn't become a merchant seaman when he retires...

Re: Chris Wood
I thought the header was the easiest of the 2 golden chances he had. Can't hit the goal keeper when you've a free header 6 yards out.
Jordan made the save look world class, it was literally a yard from him.
Probably headed it too much into the ground if that's possible

Ridiculous thread, Wood has had a good chance saved today off an international keeper. Had a very good header brilliantly saved in the 2nd half and he also came up against 2 very good centre halves. Battled well all day, still our best goal scorer and he's worth a lot more than the £15m we paid for him.

I think its harsh on Wood to criticise him for the 1-1 tbh. Credit to Pickford for getting out so quickly to the feet of Wood who didn't have time to sort his feet out or to manipulate the ball

Re: Chris Wood
Strange post considering where we are in the league... I think we need to be trying different things. The same old tactics and personnel have us in the bottom 3 you know?
He actually said that Wood is the best striker we have when on form but equally offers next to nothing when not scoring. I'd agree. Would I have hooked him at half time? Maybe not but had we made a change the result could be different (albeit either way).
As a moderator I'm not sure you should be belittleing people's opinions in this manner!

Re: Chris Wood
The Man City defeat was never going to be anything but.
Since Ben Mee returned we've beat Palace and drawn vs Brighton and Everton. Everton were top of the league not so long ago.
Now is the time NOT to be trying different things, but to be going with what we know damn well works.
Re: Chris Wood
You just want to see me wound up, Frank.

Re: Chris Wood
I've replied to you on the other thread Frank. Remaining games and the 5 points every 4 sees us finish with 36 and very possibly relegation. I don't know what your watching if you think this is working. Vast improvement and investment needed before I can say that!!FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 4:14 pmThe Man City defeat was never going to be anything but.

Wish I could be positive about it Frank but im struggling
I'll gladly eat my hat and yours (if you've got one) if we've turned this around come the end of the season

Knocked off the ball far to easy, but I have to say that seems to be running thru most of the team at the moment. Nevertheless...not a bad performance. They all look physically and mentally jiggered...really hope we can add to them come Jan.

He’s awful probs the slowest immobile centre forward in the prem . Yes he’s scored a good number for us but ultimately someone’s gotta pot em.

Re: Chris Wood
5 points from 4 games. One of those games was Man City.
You haven't seen our injuries in the first 6 games and how we've improved now we have our defence back. Defence was **** without Mee and Tarky together.
Look at it, then look at the points we've picked up. I'm sure it will make you change your mind.

Re: Chris Wood
Thought like most of the team today he played well.
It was 2 good saves from Pickford.
BT sport commentator and Martin Keown were giving him plenty of praise.
Would like to have seen Vydra come on today - Mina and Keane very dominant in the air and would have been good to see something different - especially as the likes of Brownhill were doing so well in winning the second ball today thought it was crying out for Vydra’s movement

Re: Chris Wood
I have a right to an opinion as does every other poster and it makes absolutely no difference whether I moderate the board or not. I wasn't belittling at all, just relieved, given his views, that he's not picking the team.
Re: Chris Wood
You do have a right to an opinion, you should also remain impartial I guess in some sense (although I guess it's difficult as a fan).
Maybe you should offer some substance to why you hold the opinion you do instead of just stating "im glad he's not picking the team".
Do you think Wood played well?
Which parts do you disagree with? Ect.
This should be a place where people discuss opinions and offer there points, not just mock them.

Re: Chris Wood
I guess as someone who moderates the board I always thought you should remain impartial if your upholding the rules.
I might be wrong in this!
What I mean by impartial is not that Tony shouldn't have his own view but be more accepting of others especially as the moderator of the site, surely he wants to promote people sharing there opinions and not just mocking them.

There was one moderator on Clarets Mad who was absolutely shocking. Thankfully he's not a moderator on here, but I think as long as they don't use it in their favour when giving their opinion, there's no problem. To my knowledge, Tony has never banned somebody for disagreeing with him.

I did say he was our best finisher , and stated that when he’s not at it , that’s he is often very ineffective. I didn’t say that I wouldn’t pick him, nor would I start without him because he’s our biggest goal threat , but today he was way off the pace unfortunately , which is why I was frustrated and would have liked to have seen him taken off. I don’t claim to be a football manager or superior to anyone in their opinions of football, however one thing I’m certain of is that Woods performance was way below par today unfortunately .ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 5:33 pmI have a right to an opinion as does every other poster and it makes absolutely no difference whether I moderate the board or not. Re: Chris Wood
I actually thought he played well today !! It's an incredibly difficult job playing up top with long passes being pinged at you and Keane and Mina are both strong, physical CHs.
Thought his touch was decent, he made the chance where Pickford saved in the first half by a clever lay-off and run and he almost notched a winner with the header the second half. He was much better than Jay today.

Re: Chris Wood
Strikers are as good as the service they get. Since McNeill decided not to play as a winger Wood and Rodriguez have had bugger all to work with. Unfortunately Westwood and Brownhill aren't good enough to provide the creativity to feed our strikers. When Brownhill played his first couple of games he looked very promising, however now he has adapted to the framework he has become another sideways passer without making any forward runs. That's the way we play I'm afraid.

Re: Chris Wood
He looked a bit off after his bad fall. Took the non-risky option for his finish when he should have scored. Could have chipped it or put it through Pickfords legs.
But goalkeeping isn't just about being quick off the line and making yourself big. It's also understanding your opponents and how they finish.
I personally wish he offered a bit more aside from scoring. His hold up play is pretty bad for a big man.
