Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned already but Chuck Yeager the first man universally acknowledged to have broken the sound barrier in 1947 has died aged 97
If you’ve ever read The Right Stuff or seen the movie you’ll understand the sheer skill and courage of this man

I knew him quite well and even wear the badge of honour of having been on the receiving end of a Yeager lawsuit. He certainly was a prickly character.
