Chuck Yeager

Post by midlander63 » Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:02 pm

Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned already but Chuck Yeager the first man universally acknowledged to have broken the sound barrier in 1947 has died aged 97

If you’ve ever read The Right Stuff or seen the movie you’ll understand the sheer skill and courage of this man

First of many, and an inspiration to more. Heard he was a “prickly” character, but nether the less did great things.

I knew him quite well and even wear the badge of honour of having been on the receiving end of a Yeager lawsuit. He certainly was a prickly character. The first time we met he noticed my accent and said 'when I left England in 1945 I hated the English more than I hated the Germans'.
