iPad Pro or MacBook Pro

Post by ClaretDiver » Thu Dec 10, 2020 3:02 pm

So, those who have used either of the above, what are the pro's and con's of each.

I am going to be using it for GoPro video editing, extracting stills and editing...

The MacBook Pro, at least the 13'' model, has just been refreshed with the new Apple M1 CPU. If you're editing 4K video I would probably go for that, as the new silicon performs incredibly well. I did some benchmark testing with one and it outperformed a 3 year old iMac Pro that cost 4 times as much.
The battery life is insane as well. I've only had to charge it after 15 hours of use.

The iPad Pro will cost you a few hundred quid less, but for the sake of flexibility and performance I would definitely recommend the MBP.
If you purchase one from John Lewis, they're currently running a promotion where you get a free 3 year guarantee.

I should add, I can get 10% discount on Macs and iPads through my brother's UNiDAYS account. I'd be happy to help you out in that respect.
That's if ordered direct from Apple.

Chalk n cheese- MacBook Pro is made exactly for your requirements.
iPad Pro isn’t - it can do a decent enough job - quickly and easily but isn’t the horse for the course you specified

No problem at all fella, 10% amounts to a fair chunk of change on this sorta stuff so it's the least I could do, keep me posted.

It doesn't need much RAM on the new Macs - The M1 apple silicon is rapid compared to many of the Intel and AMD chips.

8GB ram on the new macs appears to be absolutely fine.
