I agree barring the Ben Mee comparison. He wasn’t converted to a centre half, he reverted to centre half, a position he was always way, way better in.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:39 pmPeople mock. But then probably forget how brilliant Alexander was when converted into that role. When Ben Mee was converted from a left back to centre half. And plenty of similar examples.
Jones only issue (and its a big one) is fitness.
Ability wise he is easily good enough.

Ben was a central defender when he first played for us but was shunted to left back because he wasn’t very good in the centre. Having said that he was playing alongside David Edgar.

I love this board!
Laughed at when this was suggested as a transfer lined up in the last window.

He was bobbins at left back, but a needs must. He was never a full back but credit to him, he tried his best until the belated opportunity arose for him to return to centre half.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:33 pmBen was a central defender when he first played for us but was shunted to left back because he wasn’t very good in the centre. No. He came in as a centre half, had played there for Leicester in the previous season but he lost his place and only got back into the team at left back.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:48 pmI thought he was put there because we didn't have a decent left back?

In Norwood, Lundstram,Smith and Bright-Samuel
Out, none the squads too small as it is
Ash Barnes has gone in some people's eyes from hero to zero.Hes a 100% er something others in the side would do well to match.

Please don't start page counting posts - I got fed up of those on the ALK thread and the reason I started this thread was because I just wanted somewhere for people to talk about the upcoming transfer window where we didn't have the 'link only' frustration, or start bloating other threads with the information.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:46 pmI love this board!

People will pretend to know something or take information in good faith - that is something everyone has to accept - even those posting what they know when their in the know information differs from someone else's in the know information. If anyone is going to get defensive over their post being questioned, don't post it.
Hopefully this thread will be allowed to have a discussion and it not to get into points scoring, page counting, told you so's etc - which is what usually makes a post be locked or turns people off reading and engaging in the board.

Tyrese campbell to miss rest of season . So if we were interested that's now out the window
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I would think we will have to win 3 games between now and the end of the year, before any decent, 1st team player would consider signing for us

He heard we were interested hes now feigning injury so we lose interest...it really is that hard for us to attract talent to come and play at the Turfmill hill claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 3:21 pmTyrese campbell to miss rest of season . So if we were interested that's now out the window

I think we will be out of the bottom 3 before the window opens and I think what will direct the success of our window is likely to be wider than what happens in the next few games regardless of whether my prediction comes true or not.

Phil Jones has never been a good player since he left bastards, he was simply a good fit for them, like some players are for some teams and they cashed in on him, he's simply a big lump, overweight and slow, and can't keep fit for long enough to lose it, so I for one hope he's nowhere near Turf Moor.

We have a great opportunity to look in a far healthier position for the window now. No games are easy but I would rather be looking at these than the likes of liverpool/city/spurs etc.clarethomer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 3:41 pmI think we will be out of the bottom 3 before the window opens and I think what will direct the success of our window is likely to be wider than what happens in the next few games regardless of whether my prediction comes true or not.

Those fixtures will certainly give us a good idea on whether we can move away from the bottom 5 of the league and could well reflect our strength of bargaining position in relation to persuading any new signings to join us in Jan

Do we really need another left-back? I'd have thought our right side is a more urgent requirement for an upgrade, there's several teams interested in him, however we may get to see him up close and personal in the FA Cup tie if he plays in that.clarethomer wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:53 amhttps://www.burnleyexpress.net/sport/f ... id-3066634

It's welcome that we're looking at younger players in the lower leagues, that's the market we need to be active in, and try and pick up the bargains if we can.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It depends.
I presume that Taylor will be around a bit longer but not sure how long Pieters is 32 now I think, so as a back up, it may be that we are getting to that stage where we this may not be a position we have cover longer term.
I do share the concern that there are more urgent areas that I would prefer us to focus on but I think its the approach of if the right player comes up at the right price, we are always interested.
Look at how much depth we had in the GK team prior to this season.

Are we going to invest in players this January???
As the CEO came out and said we would, does anyone have any info on who we are after?
Hope we are looking outside the box and the very narrow parameters we have set ourselves thus far

Because it is a Burnley Express link, some will think that's a local reporter so giving some credence to the link, Jordan Cronin is not actually Burnley Express but writes for the company that owns them.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:32 pmDo we really need another left-back? In his latest YouTube video by the club he said he expects us to be active in January, I can’t see anything happening before the takeover but I hope we get at least one first team player in that improves us
Need to get onto Wenger see if he knows any bargains, he owes us after all his robberies down the years

Just a few more rumours.
Milos Veljkovic - CB/DM for Werder Bremen. Interesting the link has come from quite a reputable source in German football (Bild)
Hans Vanaken - Creative midfielder from Brugge. Could be something in this, we must have someone that watches Belgium football from the Defour days. (Daily Star)
Mathias Norman - Rostov Midfielder (sports witness)
Ercan Kara - Rapid Wien striker (Kleine Zeitung)
Interesting that this transfer window we seem to be linked with more foreign players. Is this the influence of ALK potentially?

We have Sean Dyche as our manager
He won't even take his family on holiday to Sheppey Island because he thinks it is outside the UK

When you read articles like the previous link, it makes you realise why he’s so keen to invest in British players. Brownhill comes here and fits in immediately. No guarantees with these foreign players, and with a budget so small we really can’t afford to waste any money.

Mathias Norman has been heavily linked with Man Utd. He looks quite useful. A bit of pace with skill. Certainly different to what we’ve got.

I see Maehle is joining Atalanta for 12m Euros. He looked very decent (albeit v 10 men) in the second half of the England v Denmark game a couple of months back. Shame.
