You're easily amused.
Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Is he a covid casualty, not quite fully fit yet? Or even put on the bench as camouflage so the opposition don't know how short they are?

I think we’d have more points on the board now if he was still in our squad.

Quality player, hardly ever injured and should have been our right winger this season, big miss for me, needs replacing asap with the same quality.

Not the first time he’s been on the bench but that will happen at Newcastle, Bruce rotates his squad quite a bit.BurnleyMickSouth wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 2:52 pmOur Ex player who so wanted to run his contract down and move to a bigger club, has got his wish today, hes moved from playing on the pitch, and MOVED to the subs bench, well i thought it was funny..... good old Jeff.

One of the Newcastle websites showed his stats for the last few years. Ran around a lot and did nothing! Exactly what I saw.

Aswell.
Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Well, he shouldn't have been our right winger this season. Playing a CM at RM and hoping he'll carry on doing a job is something completely different. We should have signed a new right mid. Replacing with the same quality, hopefully not, upgrade needed me thinks!Giftonsnoidea wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 3:11 pmQuality player, hardly ever injured and should have been our right winger this season, big miss for me, needs replacing asap with the same quality.

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
I liked Hendrick, I liked Boyd and Arfield too although I don’t think we are significantly weaker without any of them and if we are it’s because of how disastrous our recruitment has been.
I’d love Arfield back though, imo he will be remembered as a club legend of this Dyche era for aslong as earth lasts.

Became the target unfortunately as soon as Brady was injured at Leicester. Says more about the management at Burnley, rather than the player in that he was allowed to run his contract down. It's either a contract extension or sell.BurnleyMickSouth wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 2:52 pmOur Ex player who so wanted to run his contract down and move to a bigger club, has got his wish today, hes moved from playing on the pitch, and MOVED to the subs bench, well i thought it was funny..... good old Jeff.

I watched the first half of the Newcastle game in Tanges sports bar in Benalmadena. There were a few Geordies there watching the game. I asked why Hendrick wasn't playing and got the reply (in a strong Geordie accent) "it's because he's f.cking sh.te mate". Make of that what you will.

In fairness, what did you expect the club to do? They can’t force a sale prior to his contract running down and they can’t force him to sign a new deal either. I don’t think it says anything about the management at Burnley if a player is determined to run down his contract and leave.

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Hendrick was steady when played in a position he was familiar with and could affect the game. As a stand in central midfielder he was acceptable, and as a right sided midfielder he was better.
I wanted him to stay, but he didn’t want to. Fair enough as far as I’m concerned, but let’s not rewrite history here and turn him into Cristiano because we remember the song.
Any claims that we’d be in a better position than we are now if he’d stayed are nothing more than fairy stories.
I liked him, and would have preferred he stayed, but we lost a decent squad player, not Andrea Pirlo.
I was hoping The Icelander would remain injury free and get his fitness up to scratch early so we’d never need to discuss this....

Fans seem to get offended by players wanting to move on, almost as though thy should be loyal until we want rid. It’s a 15 year career for most, get what you can whilst you can! As long as you are working hard, as players like Jeff did, then I’ve no problem with it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 4:50 pmIn fairness, what did you expect the club to do? With our current fit squad, he could still have undoubtedly played a major role and could probably have featured in his more favoured central midfield
At least he was generally fit and available unlike some of our squad

Running down his contract with us then nailing down a £10 million+ deal with the talent he has?

If there are crowds in when we play Newcastle at home he will get booed for no reason other than he opted to move to another club.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 5:24 pmFans seem to get offended by players wanting to move on, almost as though thy should be loyal until we want rid. It’s selective though. Danny Ings & Glen Little did the same and got good receptions when they came back.

Stats showed he couldn’t pass, couldn’t dribble and didn’t tackle. Nothing else to see but him running around. Ok he stood next to Lowts from time to time to try and stop attacks down the right. Offered nothing to our going forward.Sunny Cornwall wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 4:27 pmOne of the Newcastle websites showed his stats for the last few years. Ran around a lot and did nothing! Exactly, you only own them for that period, funny how clubs don’t just sign players up for 15 years on 50k per week, has to work both waysClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 6:08 pmIf there are crowds in when we play Newcastle at home he will get booed for no reason other than he opted to move to another club.

He served us well, hardly ever injured,to my knowledge never grumbled about playing out of position most games, in my book that's someone you need in a team like ours...cant believe the total disregard from our support for Hendrick's contribution during his time at the Turfwarksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 5:28 pmWith our current fit squad, he could still have undoubtedly played a major role and could probably have featured in his more favoured central midfield

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Is it possible that it’s because of the early form of Hendrick? I say “form” but I suppose I really mean effectiveness. He was played well out of position for a long time in a position we tried to invent and if people are honest it really didn’t work - not least for Jeff. We only really saw Jeffs worth when the experiment was ended and we saw him out on the right really affecting games. By then, he already had become the whipping boy.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 6:08 pmIf there are crowds in when we play Newcastle at home he will get booed for no reason other than he opted to move to another club.

Ings and Blakey were both really effective and exciting from the off. At least to me they were.

I think Ings’ reception would have be very different had we not been on an upward curve too. I think he’d have been the cause of all ills if we were languishing in the championship or worse for years for someClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 6:08 pmIf there are crowds in when we play Newcastle at home he will get booed for no reason other than he opted to move to another club.

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
This out of position stuff. This was when we climbed to fourth in the league playing him behind one striker. For me that worked really well and he was a vital part of that system.bobinho wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 6:45 pmIs it possible that it’s because of the early form of Hendrick? Re: Move for Hendrick.....
The problem with Hendrick is he isn’t that effective on the ball he was a fish out of water playing as a shadow striker, no threat came from him at all and that’s what should be happening from someone playing in that position.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 7:48 pmThis out of position stuff. Hendrick was too often chasing lost causes and trying to affect second phase plays.
The main issue with Hendrick was the price tag and the at best bang average performances from him. He didn’t do a great deal
Wrong, just never done a great deal apart from tick up KMs on the gps tracker.
I don’t wish Jeff and bad at all but I’m equally not bothered in the slightest that he isn’t out player anymore.

No denying it worked collectively, as the league position showed, but at what cost to Jeff? Not personally, but the fact his role was undervalued by quite a lot of fans and that didn’t do him any favours whatsoever and I wonder if that may well have contributed to him just wanting out.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 7:48 pmThis out of position stuff. As an aside, why did we end up abandoning the successful system?

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
I think it provided us with a system that got the best out of Defour. I think the four behind Hendrick were JBG, Defour, Cork, Brady until December when Brady suffered the injury.bobinho wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:08 pmNo denying it worked collectively, as the league position showed, but at what cost to Jeff? I think Defour’s injury just about ended it to be honest. He was a vital player but I’ll never understand how people couldn’t see how effective Jeff was in that role.

Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Hendrick to me is a player that needs a team to play a certain way, when he played with Defour and Cork some of the football we played was great to watch.
It is when fans expect him to do things that don’t suit his style that can make him look ordinary, he isn’t a right midfielder that will beat a man or put crosses in.
I also thought he was the player that probably needed an arm around and “love” from the manager as he definitely a confidence player

Hendrick starting in any premier league team is just an indication of that teams weakness
Re: Move for Hendrick.....
Would rather have had Vydra playing in the shadow striker role than Hendrick, saying that Vydra is a far better player.
