Great gamesmanship
That is experienced gamesmanship from us there. That goes against us so often. Well done to McNeil and Westwood who know xhaka is a liability discipline wise. About time we benefitted instead of lost out. Not had that since Barton.

Re: Great gamesmanship
How many times have we been too nice. Or fell foul of teams taking advantage of us. I’d rather we didn’t need to resort to that but it was very clever and I’m sure planned.

I’d like to see us go for it here. Three pints very much to gain.

Re: Great gamesmanship
When their player caught tarky with his hands on the face (not a foul for me btw) then threw himself to the ground holding his own face in panic, sums modern football up.

Re: Great gamesmanship
It was a cynical foul on McNeil and I can understand his reaction. It was just fortunate that he managed to face up to Xhaka who is not the type to apologise. Great stuff. Westwood was simply trying to keep the peace.

Re: Great gamesmanship
So the Arsenal lad gets booked for lashing out at Tarky but no penalty given. I'm assuming the ball wasn't in play ?

Re: Great gamesmanship
I said on my WhatsApp chat with my brothers that we are pretty poor and making fouls look like fouls. This was after Wood’s ankles were clipped and Arsenal broke. Had that been an Arsenal player they’d have dropped to the floor holding their ankles.
I don’t want to see deception or cheating but I loved seeing McNeill square up to Xhaka, and Westwood backing him up. Him being stupid enough to take the bait was the icing on the top of the cake. A little disappointed that their two hairy players weren’t playing to add to the enjoyment.

Re: Great gamesmanship
Dwight squared up to him because it was a hard late dirty challenge
Well done young man

Re: Great gamesmanship
Agree. It was nothing to do with gamesmanship and everything to do with being angry about a needless challenge that could easily have caused injury.Stacky_claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:17 pmDwight squared up to him because it was a hard late dirty challenge

Really?! He knew exactly what he was doing there, hence his fall to the floor once Xhaka connected with his throat

Re: Great gamesmanship
Not sure why Brady chose to cross instead of run to the corner on 92 minutes. We then lost possession and needlessly had to soak up 3-4 minutes of chances.

Re: Great gamesmanship
Yeah. Really silly . He’s been good in the last couple of games so I don’t want to be critical, but he doesn’t half fo some daft things at daft times. I was expecting to see Pieters replace him for the last 10 mins. Good performance from Robbie though and hopefully more to come.

Re: Great gamesmanship
Westwood made the most of it - as he did last year with the Norwich lad - but in both cases he was entitled to go down and the correct decision was made.

Re: Great gamesmanship
He was trying to keep the peace. Xhaka pulled his shirt and then grabbed him quite viciously around the neck. Going down was the best option. Would’nt you do the same? If you don’t do this, the situation escalates.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:23 pmReally?! No, Salford Kiss for me every time
Re: Great gamesmanship
Why was he entitled to go down? Because there was some contact? Iv seen many people on here claim it’s a player diving to win a penalty when there is contact, which way is it?IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:35 pmWestwood made the most of it - as he did last year with the Norwich lad - but in both cases he was entitled to go down and the correct decision was made.
I don’t mind either way but in a few days the same people saying Westwood was entitled to go down will be complaining when Grealish is going down after contact....

I certainly hope he got a telling off. We have to think smart in those situations. Perfect opportunity to run the clock down for 2 or 3 minutes, chose the wrong option and ended up under pressure against a team with a history of scoring late against us. Not knocking him, he's has a good two games otherwise, but just need to make sure all the players know what to do there in future.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:32 pm

Generally thought we rushed it a bit after scoring actually. Would love to see us just playing in triangles instead of hoofing it long every fourth pass.
Re: Pieters, I was expecting him to come on too. And wanted him on actually. Pleased Brady got a full 90 in the end and think he's played well in the last two games which is pleasing to see. But I equally wouldn't object to see Pieters start against Villa and double up on Grealish.
