He's suffered with ill health for quite some time but sad news, always liked Houllier.

He did have to have major heart surgery many years ago whilst still being the Liverpool manager, as I recall.
Still sad to hear though.

Says a lot about a person when everyone I’ve spoken to and read comments from include ‘always liked him’ ‘seemed a really nice guy’

Exactly what came to my mind when I think of him.

Was a good manager for Liverpool after they had become a bit of a joke. Played good football too.

One of the true gents of the game, he has had major health issues for many years, so sadly this isn't a total shock.

He played a big role in the early careers of Carragher, Gerrard and Owen amongst others. and he put Liverpool back on the football map, 5 trophies in one season isn't exactly shabby is it, and he created the vast majority of their 2005 CL winning squad.
