First name on shirts

Post by tarkys_ears » Wed Dec 16, 2020 7:36 pm

Would Dyche stand for it?

Personally I think it shouldn't be allowed, mainly because it makes you look a complete douchebag.

A few put first names on because they have had shite dads and won't acknowledge their last name the family name.

Memphis Depay: uses Memphis Having been abandoned by his father at a young age, he prefers to be called by his first name.

Dele Alli: Abandoned by his father before his birth, he was placed in a foster home at the age of 13. He opted to take his first name to distance himself from a name he feels no connection to.

Doesn't really matter does it?

Aguero has Kun Aguero on his.

Brazilians don't always use their actual names, like Pele for example.

Makes no real difference to your life.

Thanks. That’s a very good explanation.

Presumably names such as Fred and Hulk are just made up rubbish ? Can’t see the point unless you are a child. Many cultures put the surname first. Why didn’t Alli and Depay change their names permanently if they felt so strongly about it ?

I agree Boss, using Memphis or Deli doesn't stop the use of their family (father's) names so what's the point?

They didn't have names on shirt when he played but if they had, and he'd had to put his real name on it would have been Edson Arantes do Nascimento.

What a load of pretentious claptrap. I can understand with the Brazilians, they've always done it that way traditionally, mainly because they have extraordinarily long names.

I think in general they put their first names on because they see themselves as so much superior to the rest that a first name only is enough to identify them. Somehow I can't see Chris Wood trying it. Or Ben Mee, though he could fit his full name on and still have room for his OBE (what do you mean, he hasn't got one yet?).

And if either Barnes or Westwood wanted to try it on, it might be the end of their famous joint transport partnership.
