Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Constructive criticism on a message board is very different from getting behind the lads.
You can be critical and also get behind the lads you know.
I think people make the incorrect assumption that fans who are critical are not supporting the team and hurling abuse at players at games.
Talking about Barnes not being good enough doesn't mean you won't get behind him. It doesn't mean you don't support him or the team. It's a debate. No one's claiming to be correct and no one's doing any harm. What we think doesn't matter anyway.
I don't understand why the minute there's some debate people chime in asking why we can't just get behind the team. This is a message board. People talk about things. It's nothing to do with getting behind the team or not. If people didn't care and didn't want to get behind the team, they wouldn't be here.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Totally agree Superdimitri. I'm absolutely one of Ashely's biggest fans, but that doesn't mean I can't take an objective view or make a considered comment on the current situation. I'd never openly decry any player on a match and never have, but making comments on here about things as I see them is a different matter. And just to reiterate, I'm concerned about Barnsey because he definitely looks to be struggling atm and I'm wondering if at his age and post serious injury, he'll ever get it back.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Fair play to Barnes. It was inevitable that this post would be bumped.
I’m delighted he’s scored and played well that’s exactly what hes capable of. Which makes it more disappointing when he doesn’t try to play football.
99% of us who questioned and criticised him don’t have anything against Barnes. And do want him to succeed.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Barnes has played football tonight and competed and got his goal.
What is very noticeable ( and a criticism rightly levelled at him) is that he has not thrown himself to the floor at every opportunity, as a consequence he has played better.

Glad to see Barnes has done really well tonight.Zlatan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 11:16 pmCertainly a lot of polarity on this subject. I don’t see having an opinion about how Barnes plays is wrong in any event. I personally (as stated previously) think he just needs to stay on his feet more and I personally think he’d be more effective. He’s not the only one who I think has become a little easy to go down, we saw former player of the season Ashley Westwood do it and it cost us points.
Having a strong jaw used to be our belief but when we have players who drop too easily when our manager often berates other teams players for doing so I find it a little hypocritical.
That all said, we have improved lately, and the results are coming, we’ve finally beaten Arsenal too, signs are more positive. Performances will come

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Barnes going to the floor is part of his game. Always has been. He did it well to relieve pressure at the end of his tenure today. No one has a complaint about it when it works, problem in the last game is it wasn't working as much.
He tries to play the ref and usually the crowd too. Winds people up. He's definitely someone who'll benefit most from the crowd being back.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
He won us a few free kicks today by exaggerating contact. He didn’t play any more or less football than usual tonight. The difference is he was a bit sharper, he scored a good goal and the team played really well.

Absolutely made up for Ash. I'm one who loves him to bits, but reluctantly felt he was really struggling and may never get it back. He was very good tonight and could have had a couple more. Chuffed to bits for him!
Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
So pleased for him tonight. Back to the Barnes we know and love. Him and Wood could take some stopping now.

Not on this board though, there is never room for middle ground.burnleymik wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 7:41 pmCriticism when it's deserved and praise when it's deserved. Part of being a football fan.
If you criticise a player it means you want that player dead and are probably a Bar Steward fan.
If you praise a player it means you're a dribbling happy clapper.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
Last few games thought he’s looked a bit sharper when coming on as sub. However after 10 mins tonight I was thinking Dyche had made a huge error starting him glad to be proved wrong superb header and after that back to doing what he does best. Same goes to Wood amazing what a goal does for confidence!

Clearly lacking sharpness in earlier games but great improvement last night. Now he’s scored will boost confidence and hope to see further improvement in coming games. He was always going to need some time to get back up to speed after so long out. I believe he will soon be back to his best.

That goal should boost his confidence no end, and you've seen it with strikers before, they can quickly go on a run once they find their scoring touch, let's hope that's the case with Ash, and besides his goal he looked sharp throughout, he may finally be regaining his match fitness after his long lay-off.
Welcome back barnstorming Barnes for him.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
The timing couldn’t have been better for both our forwards to hit the net & both players put together one streak of goals per season and up against three of the leakiest defences in the league then either or both could bang in a few. Although Fulham seem to have tightened up at the back recently.
Hopefully the dynamic duo are back in business.

I seem to remember his (Barnes) namesake going on a barren(ish) run and slapping 5 past Stockport Countytiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 11:48 pmThat goal should boost his confidence no end, and you've seen it with strikers before, they can quickly go on a run once they find their scoring touch, let's hope that's the case with Ash, and besides his goal he looked sharp throughout, he may finally be regaining his match fitness after his long lay-off.

Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
I seem to remember Chris Wood saying that Ashley Barnes is the best striker he's ever played with.
Re: Comments on Ashley Barnes
He needs to be knocked a few more times today to fire up the pre match spirit and get him ready for tomorrow.
If a player has answered his critics, he's usually had a good game.
More answering over the next few games please Ashley

Not surprising given the fact Ash is the greatest striker of all time.
