Rubbish as real people don't even entertain the BBC as Tyson clearly shows

I think viewing figures will show that you're wrong. People, real or not in your opinion, watch the BBC in their millions, figures which the other networks - and their supporters - can only dream of.
We can sneer at Tyson or Hamilton or both or neither but the fact is the most votes were cast in Hamilton's favour.
Tyson is admired by just a few blokes, he had no chance of winning. He lost, get over it.

No and rightly so. Fury doesn't even want the award as he knows how disgusting it is
Wrong. He doesn’t know how disgusting it is. He does want the award but when he saw the final list he knew he wouldn’t win it so reverted to type. “I don’t want it anyway, and I’m the people’s champion so ner.”

Its not something I watch or take much notice of but out of curiosity did Gary Lineker win an award this year?

His tireless work to raise awareness and get involved around things like racism and the refugee crisis has been fantastic plus the MotD stuff he did in the first big lockdown was top notch and helped out of lot of people going through tough times.

If he didn't get an award I hope he got some good recognition within the program itself cos I think he is one of the Sport and TV stars we can really look up to as a role model

Got to laugh at the thought of one or two on here that the only people who voted were BBC lackeys and lickspittles...

Lewis Hamilton can kiss my arse. Don’t congratulate him in anything the tax dodging bellend
HM Revenue and Customs' 2019 figures put him within the top 5,000 highest UK income tax payers.
What insanely wealthy person doesn't have their money carefully handled by accountants to pay less tax? I'm sure a few of our players are up to it.

People seem to have confused this award with the BBC U.K. taxpayer of the year award.

I find it difficult to class F1 as a sport therefore Hamilton should not really qualify as a sportsperson However Hamilton would have been a contender in Poor Little Rich Boy Personality of the Year competition. Picking Up Dog Poo is more of a sport.

I just can't quite put my finger on why some of this boards more right-leaning posters are so worked up by Lewis Hamilton.

I mean, the faux-outrage at his wealth, overseas residence and tax avoidance doesn't stack up, because they generally don't care about that, and usually dismiss people who call it out for peddling 'the politics of envy'.

No. There must be another reason. Head-scratcher.

I'd go with Hamilton, brilliant achievement this year. A lot of sports have been put on the backburner so competition was reduced. In the past there have been winners from boxing and snooker. The voting isn't really the issue though, it's the shortlisting by the panel of "experts" that should be questioned. Jonathan Rea's achievements should have at least seen him as a contender.

Do you have to be involved in a sport that the BBC has the broadcasting rights for to be considered? If not, I would point to Jonathan Rea as a good shout in place or Hamilton. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Rea

The list of contenders was pretty threadbare but I guess that’s largely due to the circumstances this year. If Rashford had been on the list I think he would have won but I guess as he’s not actually won anything in sport that bars him from nomination. In terms of achievement it was between Hamilton, O’Sullivan and Furey and I agree that Hamilton was the deserved winner all things considered. Some of the reasons given on here for why he shouldn’t have won have nothing to do with sporting achievement.

Shouldn’t be knighted while he is still active in the sport. But he is a ‘BAME’ so ticks all the boxes that need to be ticked.

Arbitrary objection No. 1: the timing of the honour

Arbitrary objection No. 2: the motive behind it

I honestly think F1 is **** and I'd probably win a championship in that car he drives, but the arbitrary hurdles you're putting up to recognising that...yeah, perhaps an English bloke who has absolutely smashed about every record in his sport this year might be worthy of a pointless platitude of little more value than a pat on the back, makes me think that your objection (particularly the second sentence of your post) rather betrays your biases about him being...you know...

The bloke is a bit weird and definitely has his head up his arse, but if he isn't worthy of that stupid little gong then nobody is, quite frankly. Which begs the question: what is the purpose of these ludicrous honours? Or rather, what do you seek in them being awarded? To celebrate achievement for the achievement itself, or to contribute to the weaving of a triumphant narrative about what it is to be British?

And by that we of course mean, white.

Didn’t our great sportsmen ( he’s truly one of those) have to put a life of achievement in the public domain AFTER their illustrious careers had ended before receiving the honour ? Hopefully the wig wearing petulant clown will behave himself when meeting her maj and not ask her “ why you not taking the knee fam “

Just to apply the brakes requires about 350lbs of force. And then imagine doing that hundreds of times for about an hour and a half. The G force and pressure on the neck muscles forces your head down. You need strong neck muscles to just keep your head upright. The idea that any normal bloke is jumping in an f1 car and taking it for a spin is fanciful. F1 drivers are athletes.
