Just finished his autobiography. He doesn’t pull any punches. A good read, if slightly dated now.

Just watched this. Like someone said above quite sad but funny moments as well. I miss direct speaking people like him. I'd love to have heard his views on VAR!! Some really touching moments showing his advanced dementia. In one bit he was watching some footage and none of it was going in. But then there was a spark when he saw Paul McGrath and a smile came to his face. Brought a tear to my eye.

It really was a fantastic piece im just surprised that not lot of interest for it was shown on here,ah well i enjoyed it RIP big Jack.

Cracking bloke who was often seen in the local area and who always had time for a chat in his days before dementia started to set in.
He certainly never forgot his roots and was very well respected by all in Ashington.

I met Jack at a Newcastle funeral a few years ago, he was very happy to talk Burnley and Jimmy Adamson, who grew up the same Ashington street as the Charlton brothers. Unimpressed by Brian O’ Neil’s “header” v. Leeds though!
Sadly a bit of memory loss apparent even then. One of football’s good guys.

When he was managing 'Boro he brought them to The Turf one Saturday and 2 or 3 hours before kick off he was walking alone through the town centre. As he passed my mum laden with shopping she stopped him and said "Hello, how are you going on?" He answered he was going on ok and my mum then exchanged a few more pleasantries and finished with "well it's been great to see you and you're looking really well" After he moved away she said "I know that bloke from somewhere, but can't quite place him!!! I think he lived in Whitewell Bottom" I explained she actually "knew" him from the tele!!!

Boy missed it last night as i was called into work just as i came on here in Ireland , now all set for tonight .
A few lads a work said they were close to tears , i think i will find it hard also as i was in Jack's army since 1990 .

Probably knew him from that go fishing programme he did.

Excellent show all round. The life and times of Jack and the sadness of the dementia taking over.
I hope GS watches it and hears just one line, “I’ve always had a distrust of centre-backs that can play. I like centre-backs who stop other people playing.”

Funny at times as I would have expected from Jack Charlton but also moving with the sadness of his dementia.

Just a proper bloke wasn’t he with a sense of humour? Someone you would have trusted totally.

Really loved watching it.

I remember going into Samuels Jeweller’s in Burnley one Saturday morning in the 70’s before a Clarets home game with Middlesbrough. Big Jack who was then the Middlesbrough manager was at the counter in the process of paying for an item when the assistance asked him if he had any proof of identity to verify the cheque he had just signed. I cracked up laughing as he was one of the most distinctive looking blokes you could imagine. The shop manager came over and told Jack, in your case proof of identity won’ be necessary.

As we all know tackling was allowed in those days (and before) so Jack was asked who was the dirtiest player he had ever come across
Now we all can shout out the names of the usual suspects such as Ron Harris, Tommy Smith, Norman Hunter and even the supposed mild Johnny Giles.
Jack didn't hesitate for more than a couple of seconds before he answered
Terry Paine, Southampton
He then went on to describe his dirty antics, going in over the top etc
His only regret was the guy was so quick Jack would hardly ever be able to get near him to give some of the same medicine back

I thought it was a brilliant programme, great memories of his life and times particularly when manager of the Ireland national team. Obvious issues with "our kid" and so sad to see the effects of Dementia. Imagine living that life and then not being able to remember the moments in your old age, very sad.

Terry Paine was in the 1966 World Cup squad and played the second game in the tournament having replaced John Connelly. Jack Charlton is so right in his description of Paine, but he wouldn't have played against Giles, potentially the worst of the lot.

An excellent documentary.Jack always told it as it was.Sad how it all ended for him,his wife Pat seemed a lovely woman and they were married for 62 years until Jack died .
Jack was a hard player but very fair,even when he played in that Leeds side.
I think Jack would have been a Sean Dyche type of player today.

At last i got to see it last night , now i think it was very well done really like how it ended with the empty chair at the end .

I did think they would have showed Jack when he came onto the pitch at Lansdowne when Ireland played England the last time when all 4 side rose to satute Jack which brought tears to his eyes but there you go .

One thing is for sure what Jack did for Ireland which was a basket case for decades, 1990 really got it rolling after 88 and it was only Jack that gave our country it's pride back .

Jack was loved by close to every person in the south and he knew it .

Really good but sad programme. Jack gave up a lot of his time In the 1970s supporting coaches education, he came to Lancashire a few times; he was brilliant.
