lack of hoofball = chances created
2 big lads up top tonight, we didn't seem to launch it over them anywhere near as much as normal and look how well we played and how many chances we created.
We play well when we don't hoof it.
On another note, that perfect through ball by Pope for Barnes in the first half..........can you imagine if that was Alison or Ederson

We won most 50/50s and had the bounce of the ball tonight. That makes a huge difference to the way we play. Instead of the forwards being 40 yards from the midfield, they were 10/20 yards when our midfield had their foot on the ball. The pass from Westwood to Wood was superb and Woods footwork to make the chance was excellent.

I've always said whenever we play with Jay and Vydra up top we resort to just hoofing it whereas with Wood and Barnes we try and get it on the deck
Great performance and result tonight and long may it continue

What’s the difference between hoofball and “that perfect through ball by Pope for Barnes in the first half”?
I suspect the only difference is that we won today, ergo we must not have been playing “hoofball”.

Re: lack of hoofball = chances created
I’m prepared for a kicking here, but I don’t think we generally play much ‘hoofball’ anyway. We do play a lot of long balls, particularly long diagonals and balls into the channels and also we clear our lines instead of playing in dangerous areas.
We often try to get the ball down and play when we get the chance, but when our opposition plays with a high intensity and press us we are often forced back to Pope for a long ball up field.
Tonight, our long balls were more accurate and held up better by our forwards, the opposition didn’t play with anything like the same intensity that we did and our passing was crisp and accurate.
Tonight we played in generally the same way that we have for months and months. We just did it a lot better. Barnes’ chance came from a punt upfield, and Wood’s came from what could be described as a long ball by Westwood.

Right idea, wrong pairings. Hardly surprising though...

we played much more on the deck tonight, we played into chest and feet of the top two rather than over them - huge difference imhoRileybobs wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:19 pmI’m prepared for a kicking here, but I don’t think we generally play much ‘hoofball’ anyway. The right side of the fine margins.

Not a sign of Anti-Football!
If we hold onto the ball better and stop being forced into silly mistakes resulting in giving the ball away then we always prosper
