Thanks for the good work.

I need moderating from time to time when I get excited.

Merry Xmas

Time to implement an online ID system where all those of us who wish to continue to post should verify their identity. This would hopefully rid the board of trolls.

Nice idea in principle but I imagine there will be some awkward laws to navigate when holding people’s personal information

Correct.

Essentially it's the concept of "digital passports". We verify our ID with a place that then stores the information whilst this board doesn't have "access" to it they know it's genuine.

This board has seemed far more pleasant since the decision was made to get rid of political stuff, albeit much quieter.

The topic really does bring out the worst in people at the moment, and I certainly include myself in that. Nice to have somewhere to just discuss football.

I try to avoid gett8ng involved in contentious stuff generally but occasionally get dragged in at times of stress. I think in general the moderation is far better now.... God forbid we ever return to how embarrassing ClaretsMad got at its height... I took years off the board as a result of every post resulting in sniping. It got completely unenjoyable to discuss anything.

Yes I'd agree it's generally a more pleasant place, and the UTC posters are having to use their imaginations more, and this has produced some really interesting threads, that perhaps under normal circumstances we wouldn't have been able to enjoy.

The whole on concept of any political discourse immediately brings out the worst elements on all sides, and I can't totally claim I'm immune from that, so it's best for all concerned if we just agree to disagree, and find some more positive topics to discuss.

Of course the new rules don't mean you are limited to just discussing football, but they do remove a lot of the more volatile topics, where arguments are more likely to spill over, if people want to debate such topics there is plenty of other places for them to do so until their hearts content.

Is it much quieter?, I haven't detected a huge difference in users and threads, but then I'm not always on during the normal working week.

Matchdays will naturally attract traffic I guess, and I assume that's when the boards at it's busiest. Which is as it should be,

I've slipped once or twice into 'contentious issues' but fully understand and appreciate the excellent work that goes on to keep this board working. Lots of good discussion points on here which have helped with my health problems in the last 18 months. Again, thanks and merry Christmas to everyone who contributes

Moderating can be a thankless task at times.
After the advert overdose that became the old Mad site, I'm just grateful those with the desire and time to create another board did so.

Keep on Tony. It's much appreciated.

I agree, the board has felt like it’s dieing a bit recently but I honestly think things will pick up once those posters that stopped posting due to the trolls and trouble makers return.

Why should people have to sacrifice their online privacy and anonymity just because a small minority can't behave themselves?

Agree but one thing that has never been replicated was the regular get togethers we used to have organised by Tony and others... it is supervising how tone of voice changes when we have more understanding of the person behind the keyboard. I don’t think some level of ID above IP is unreasonable. Many of us know each other, just do not realise we know each other.

It might seem quieter, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted nothing to do with the toxic version of UTC who is now reading and occasionally posting again...

Nobody wants sterile, but something needed to be done to salvage this board and bring it a little closer to being civilised.

When I first came accross Clarets Mad, I presume before CT took over. It had a Home End and Away End. The Home end was civil (ish) and the Away End was like the Wild West. Pure abuse and bad language to everyone. Normally opposition fans popping in.

It's nice to see some people contributing again who otherwise we're put off by the hostility before. You get the impression now that people who post now are bigger fans of the club too.

I get thst this is a football message board but there was some interesting material posted and the banning of certain topics has not necessarily improved the board because the problems come from the "singers, not the songs". Because there are fewer songs there have been fewer singers on here who have been out of tune or off key.
Merry Xmas to one and all.

To be fair, that's what Twitter is. Having a conversation with yourself, hoping that somebody else joins in.

We really shouldn’t be joking at times like these. Not when people in the world are dying, and the birth of the baby Jesus too.

I'd set up a system on all social media where posters are split between two groups:

(1) people who's identity has been verified and is disclosed to all those who "need to know," - ntk would include anyone that the posters interacts with, including addressing in their respective posts;

(2) posters who's identity hasn't been verified.

All social media platforms would give verified users the option to (a) only see posts from other verified users or (b) see all posters, from both verified and unverified users.

Maybe, over time, those choosing to be in group (2) will reduce in number and social media will become truly social.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

I enjoyed being able to discuss other issues with fellow clarets other than the football. Sad we no longer can.
Never been a moderator but I do understand it must be a really difficult job to do for free.
