Agreed - out of his depth. Needs more gym time and U23 / cup football.

Thought he was okay considering it was his full PL debut? Should get behind these young players.

They’re not children. Being honest about a player’s performance is not the same as ‘not getting behind them’

Should get behind these young players - yes, but not when we’re scrapping for points in important games. A performance like today’s will have set him back a bit and his next big chance will only come from the bench this season.

Apart from one loose pass first half (which Mee was also guilty of), what was so poor about his performance?Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 3:30 pmThey’re not children. Being honest about a player’s performance is not the same as ‘not getting behind them’

Not his fault we’ve had injuries or he was called upon to play out of position.
Sure Dyche would only use him from the bench in normal circumstances, bar injuries, which was the case today.
Re: Benson
He looked solid for most of the game, had one wayward pass, and I think that’s what people remember more that the efficiency of his play.
Should really get behind our players and not knock them.

Reminded me on Brownhill when he first played on the right. Not his best position.

Re: Benson
Thought he was slow and dwelled too much on the ball throughout as well as being outmuscled. Again, criticism is allowed.
As for FactualFrank liking posts about getting behind the players after freely admitting he bet a sizeable wedge on us getting beat today, well, no comment

It’s a tough ask for a lad of his age to come in and play out of position.

Re: Benson
Stephens looked much better when he came on. Has had stick on arriving here but was obviously not match fit. Will start on Tuesday if both McNeill and Brady are still out.
I know that it sounds harsh on the lad, but Benson is not good enough at this level.

However, I have a feeling that Brady & McNeil simply weren't risked, with the 2 home games coming up.

Not sure how you can form a judgment like that in a player on his second (thanks joey13) PL start whilst playing out of position. Seems very harsh.

Re: Benson
In the second half there was a bit more fluidity to Benson Brownhill and Westwood, and I think Benson actually did pretty well second half before being subbed. In the first half he looked like it was a bit much for him , but a learning curve for the lad, probably just needed to start a bit quicker! I feel that if we had a right sided Taylor in the second half we would have scored a couple!

The lad was thrown in at the deep end today and was definitely playing out of position.
We need to see a lot more of him before we can call him out, one way or tother

Without setting the field alight - Benson tonight stuck to the shape, did the dirty work well, worked hard and kept his head! Very much an understated performance in the Hendrick mould when he was out right!

Re: Benson
Never played in that role before you have to remember, and given his mistake with the penalty against Wolves you have to give him the benefit of the doubt! The more he does it the better he will be. Hendrick was exactly the same. Never a world beater in that position, but stuck to it and performed well for the side without tearing any trees up.
A no thrills role.

Re: Benson
I agree, I thought he was very good tonight and there were some flashes of composure on the ball. I think you could tell at times he was not used to playing on the right hand side, but I think that will come with experience. We have got to remember not only are these his first few premier league games, he has played very limited league football.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 7:58 pmWithout setting the field alight - Benson tonight stuck to the shape, did the dirty work well, worked hard and kept his head! Glad he’s getting game time I think he will get better and better
Re: Benson
The problem at the moment is we have no other alternative wide right except Brownhill and he is holding everything together in midfield with his dynamism
Still thought Bardsley would have been a better option in 2nd half
But 3 points

He worked hard and stuck to his task. Struggled with the pressing, and when to close the opposition down or hold his position.
He’s in at the deep end and being played out of position.

Spot on boatshed.
Once he fills out physically , this experience of PL football will be invaluable for him. He was part of a winning Burnley side tonight so well done to him

Re: Benson
Benson needs the game time he's getting here.
He's normally in centre mid, so he is playing out of position anyway.
He hasn't disgraced himself in either of the last 2 games, and some senior players made far more mistakes than him tonight.
He's only going to get better.

Re: Benson
Some of these Premier League youngsters come in and look great because of the way their team play and the players around them.
We are asking a lot of ours to come in and play a predominantly defensive game and constantly turn back towards our own goal.

Re: Benson
None of our midfield look up to much to be fair as they are just told to sit in.
Once we scored we showed little intent of wanting to extend our lead. We sat in with 2 banks of four and Sheffield United never really looked like scoring

Re: Benson
Some terrible comments about Benson tonight. You’d soon be moaning if the young players weren’t being brought through and given game time.
It’s a process and this is only the very start of his. Give it a rest.

You know nothing about football if your comparing a lad like Benson to Hendrick who is a full international, I’d say you are deluded and wrong, put as many smileys as you want , Ronaldo must be like a god to you, no?Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:26 pmMay come as a surprise to you, but posting on here isn’t the most pressing matter of my evening.
